thats sad oof i actually love the female cast of hetalia and they deserved better. as for musicals selling w full female cast, look up to revue starlight;) thanks for answering!
The thing about the females are if anyone were to even be in the cast the only one would be Hungary, but like I said popularity plays as a main factor and you are the first gripe about females I have heard. The characters I hear get griped about the most are Romano and Canada. Just from this alone in both in the east and west the females are not as popular as the males and I am sadly guilty of being a statistic of this too since my fave being America. Also in the third musical instead of having female ensemble to play the roles of Marie Antoinette andMarie Thérèse they dressed the actors of America and Germany in drag. That is done a lot in butai and that has a lot more to do with history of theatre where all roles were played by men and no one bats an eye. I get what you mean since I was never a fan of Male idols/butai (I was a bit into Takarazuka Revue style musicals from female idols too) fan until Hetamyu. But sadly Hetalia’s Audience consist of Japanese females like I mentioned before. statistic wise the best selling characters are the members of the main cast. Revue Starlight is kind of in its own bubble considering their focus wasn’t on their musical but on the CD sales. It’s a machine too but a different machine. The idol machine. Their purpose is to bring attention to wotas so they can sell CDs. Now this is a generalization since a lot of these girls do go into acting but for the most part its for the idoling purpose. Look at Pharaoh no Haka for example too.
Revue Starlight doesn’t exactly count as a 2.5d production since it uses the same sort of stage multimedia like the Love!Live productions their company ‘Bushiroad’ isn’t related to ‘Frontier Works’ Like majority of 2.5d productions are under that specific company.
When you see most female actresses they are usually already an idol or going into that world and the musical is a push to show their other capability to raise popularity. From what I read Starlight Ravue is a ‘break out’ performance that Uses new methods of stage and theatre. a new concept that came out in March so we will see how that sort of style of stage play does in the future.
