I just realized the "lanceboard" match between Raphael and Mol at the Last Light references the Spellplague.
Raphael says to Mol- "Guard your Mystra or come for my Cyric" suggesting that the two pieces are in opposition to each other as when Cyric and Shar successfully overthrew Mystra in order to create the Shadow Weave and plunged Toril and Abeir into utter chaos and changed magic as anyone knew it.
The full exchange goes as follows-
> Mol: "No matter where the knight goes, I'm gonna lose it!"
> Raphael: "Then make the sacrifice count- Guard your Mystra or come for my Cyril."
As a tarot buff, I can't help but notice the subtle undertones of this dialogue being in reference to Gale. Especially as it happens after you've just spoken to Elminster and been given Mystra's decree. Gale gives massive Knight of Wands energy in his approach to magic. The way Gale throws himself headlong into the study and acquisition of it without always considering the aftermath is spot on for the Knight. And as in my last post, Gale is rather noble in his pursuits. He feels good saving the Tieflings. He's largely neutral in matters, but he doesn't like unnecessary bloodshed. He's diplomatic- like a knight- and as her Chosen, could well be considered one if you take into account his duties and responsibilities. It's of little surprise that he is the one to suggest the offensive to Mol that allows her to win in the end (assuming you have him in your party).
A fun little exchange to witness in what is otherwise an admissible scene. The main focus is meant to be Mol's deal with Raphael, but there's so much more under the surface.
