The Most Essential Roleplay Add-Ons in World of Warcraft (Part One)
Hello everyone! This is actually my first post to Tumblr (woohoo!) and Iâm so happy to be here! Iâm an avid World of Warcraft player, and more specifically roleplayer. My account here will be about WoW and my characters and the short stories I write about them, so I figured Iâd go through my add-ons and share my favorite ones for roleplay purposes! Please enjoy!
Remember, this is also purely my opinion on the best add-ons, so if you donât agree thatâs totally fine!
For most for pictures, I will be using my mainâs TRP3 profile, Nahama Tigerclaw. Sheâs a neutral pandaren rogue that works with goblins and pirates!
This post might be a little long, so itâll be in multiple parts so stay tuned for Part 2! This one will be focused on:
1). TRP3 (Total Roleplay 3)
Of course this one is first! What is a roleplay character without a TRP3 profile? I have a LOT to say on this plugin, since itâs probably the most important for roleplayers. The next plugins on this part also have to do with TRP3, so stay tuned.
If you donât know anything about this plugin, itâs an add-on that allows you to create a custom character profile that other players with the add-on can see, making the process of finding other roleplayers easier and allow others to see more information about your characters.
You can add things like full names, age, gender, pronouns, backstory, piercings, tattoos, an âAt a Glanceâ section and so so so much more. It makes roleplaying so much easier!
(Nahamaâs directory information, including her race, class, tattoos, pronouns, etc.!)
This add-on also gives you an IC (In Character) and OOC (Out of Character) option to set so people can know when you want to roleplay. There is also an OOC section you can fill out so people can know your limits which is extremely useful! Similarly, thereâs a Currently section to let players know what your character is doing at the moment.
(Nahamaâs âCurrentlyâ status and my OOC information!)
Another thing that this add-on does is give you options to change your language that your character speaks at will (sadly at the moment you canât learn new languages, only racials) and a thing I personally love: NPC speeches.
NPC Speeches are how you can make an NPC talk like they normally would in game. I use this feature to make my warlockâs demons talk, certain mounts, NPCs Iâve made for roleplay sessions, etc. etc. Super handy!
(NPC tab from TRP3.)
Eventually, I want to make a whole post of series of posts on how I personally fill out my TRP3 profiles, since everyone does them different. Lots of people I know like theirs filled out as little as possible so you gain information through roleplay, but I personally like to jam-pack my profiles with information.

2). TRP 3 Extended
Like the title of this add-on suggests, this is an extension for TRP3 that adds many things to the plugin! It includes things like quests, items you can create, etc.Â
(As you can see here, the plugin adds more options to the original TRP3 bar including a questline, items page, and more.)
I honestly havenât used this plugin too much. On my realm, Emerald-Dream, we donât really use this add-on for anything. At the moment, I use it to see if other roleplayers have certain items in their bag or on their profile, similar to an At the Glance section. Using this add-on is 100% on my To-Do list and Iâd love to incorporate it more.Â
This REALLY helps when creating roleplay campaigns, like DnD style. I highly suggest you learn more about it and give it a try! (and share what you learn with me... eheh)
(Nahamaâs er, quite empty quest log.)

3). TRP3 Currently Frame
This a super helpful yet very lightweight plugin that I adore!
Currently Frame creates a little window on your screen so you can change the âCurrentlyâ section on your TRP3 easily and on a whim. I find this super useful when doing DnD style roleplays where we have health and I can quickly change HP: 4/4 to HP: 3/4 to help out my other roleplayers and DM.
I usually just plop this guy in the corner of my screen and move on with my day, changing my status depending on what my character is doing. It helps with the immersion!Â
(Nahamaâs currently frame. I usually slap this tab with my TRP3 one in the bottom right corner out of my screen is itâs out of the way.)

4). KuiNameplates
This is the last plugin on this list, and the last one about TRP3, I promise! TRP3 is just such a handy add-on and I love having the most amount of information possible for myself and other roleplayers.
Actually, I used this plugin before I used it for roleplay purposes. I have it to track my DoTs and combo points easier and I just like the way it changes nameplates and enemy plates. But recently, TRP3 was updated to add compatibility with this plugin!
Now, you can use this plugin to have the IC name from someoneâs profile appear over their name instead of the drab, normal UI. Super small change and lightweight, but it can come in handy when youâre at a roleplay event and multiple people are talking! It can be hard to keep track of peopleâs usernames if they are different from their roleplay names.
(This image is from the TRP3 official Twitter. I havenât gotten enough people together yet at this time to really play with this myself!)

Thank you so much for the read! I love roleplay and my goal is to make it easier for more people to get into it, and these add-ons made a huge difference for me. If you like this sort of content, please follow! Iâm going to continue to post things of this nature, and very soon, the Part 2 follow-up to this post so stay tuned! <3
