My take
I just finished reading WOYE. The horror, suspense, foreshadowing and occasional humor are all on point. You can say it's "well-seasoned". None of the characters are two-dimensional. They all have their own good points, weaknesses and ugly sides. None of them (except MC) can be said to be innocent; yet they make it impossible to complete hate them. The author has really done a great job in the story building - she leaves clues from the beginning. Every point can be said to wrapped up well by the end of the story. No threads were left hanging.
I especially like the writing of the intimate scenes. Even in those scenes the overall emotions were not broken or lost. One thing to note - there only two chapters of these. Another thing I appreciate is how the author described Chuan'er's mother reacting to her son's partner. I won't spoil it, but honestly it was a refreshing take from all other I've read so far and seemed much more realistic. Lastly, shoutout to the translation team who did a great job. I really liked their translations.
I really recommend this to those who are looking for a suspense novel to read but not too overwhelming.
my rating: 9.2/10
