An idea

Anders and Merrill become the weird sort of friends where you guys don’t really get along in any other kind of setting, except, specifically, one person (Anders) having an existential crisis at 3am, and running over to the one person who lives closest to them (Merrill) and telling this foequaintenance all your deepest, darkest secrets, and they offer you some water, and you just keep on crying because the world is so big, Merrill, it’s just-- it’s just so big, and so many problems and what am I but one spirit-possessed abomination? 

Merrill starts looking forward to these visits, because This Anders is interesting and maybe not nice but...bearable. She starts leaving tea and a blanket out most nights, just in case.
