I started wrapping my hair a year ago today, barely having any idea of how to do it and certainly not knowing about velvet headbands and other "undergarments" but wanting a way to connect with my Jewish roots as I wrote a NaNoWriMo story about someone doing just that. I didn't intend to be a full time #tichel wearer but here we are anyway. The first few weeks were a little nerve-wracking, expecting people to think I was suddenly more religious who don't understand the levels of observance and belief in Judaism, but this felt and still feels right.
