Belle sat up on her bed, intently waiting for her mother to come to her room. Every night, Belle's mother came to her room to tuck her in and kiss her goodnight, but tonight Belle wanted to do something else.
"Good night, my Belle." Belle's mother leaned over to kiss Belle's forehead. However, Belle stopped her. "What it it, dear?" Belle reached under her pillow to show The Wonderful Wizard of Oz proudly to her mother.
"Mother, can we read this?" Belle hesitantly held the book out to her mother.
"Alright, let's read a little bit today then save the rest for later." With that, Belle's mothersat down on a rocking chair, and began to read. Every night, at the same time, Belle and her mother sat down to read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Together, they read about Dorothy's adventure. Belle looked forward to it each day, racing home, as if it would make the evening come faster. She would sit on her bed each day, waiting for her mother to come through the door.
"There's no place like home." Belle's mother finished. She closed the book and smiled at Belle. Belle clapped her hands, delighted at the ending. She scrambled up her mother's lap, and held the book. She flipped through the pages one more time, inhaling the scent.
"Mother, read it again!" The young girl pushed the book back towards her mother. She felt a burst of energy, she had finished her first book. She loved Dorothy and Toto, loved to read about their adventure. While this book had created her love for books, it also started her craving for adventure.
