DAY 09: a song about drugs or alcohol
I’m pretty into Scottish and Irish folk music, which means for someone who doesn’t drink alcohol very often at all, I have a remarkable selection of drinking songs on my ipod. This song is about the evils of having had too much to drink, and has an excellent moral, in that the singer forswears going to the pub - and it doesn’t backtrack like so many other drinking songs, with an ending like “I’ll go to the pub no more... until tomorrow!” The imagery here is astounding as well, a particular gem of a line being “I’d like to lie down, but I’d fall off the floor.” I’ve not been drunk, but I can imagine!
