Wrinkled Peach by wildlifelynn Wrinkled Peach / rhodotus palmatus. Suffolk. 22/10/19. Ever since setting eyes on pictures of Wrinkled Peach fungus I have dreamed of seeing it for myself. This dream became reality when I met up with Anita and David Goodwin who generously showed me around their local wood where WP was having a bumper season. We must have seen in excess of 35 x fruiting bodies, from tiny ‘jelly bean’ protrusions right through to large, pale, flattened fruiting bodies that were in their final stages of life above ground. Colours varied from pale pinky-white through to delicious peachy-orange and their beauty exceeded all my expectations. In addition to their attractive caps, WP have stems that weep dark red or paler orange water droplets which sparkle in the light. The weeping process is called ‘guttation’. Wrinkled Peach tends to appear in cooler temperatures after prolonged periods of rain - the very conditions most of us are experiencing this Autumn !!! Personally, seeing Wrinkled Peach for the first time has gone a long way towards compensating for enforced days indoors due to rain. This has been one of the hardest years I've had in a long time, if not 'the' hardest, for a lot of reasons. I'm glad to see it go. I hope next year will be better. I hope I actually get to go mushroom hunting more than like twice lol. I just hope I get to be me again. Honestly though, the pain and the loneliness and the struggle has to stop.
