Ah! It’s truly a man’s life being a flamethrower-equipped trooper in a science-fiction space army!

You’d think that in these modern space-times of railguns and nanomists and laserbeams there wouldn’t be any need for a man with a comically oversized, sloshing tank of flammable liquid strapped to his back and ludicrously heavy armour plating and a gun that shoots fire, but no!

We’re always needed, us! Demand is always high for our services! Because we keep exploding for one, yes, but also because something, somewhere always needs burning!

And sure you could drop an incendiary device from a hyper-jet or cyber-coptor, sure - sure you could do that!

But that just doesn’t have the same homespun, old-time charm of a man with singed eyebrows, a thick cigar clamped between his teeth and a gravelly voice manfully asking:

“Need a light?”

Before merrily hosing down the local aliens or zombies or what have you in a sheet of good old fashioned flame. Just like papa used to! Good for what ails you!

Ah! Puts hairs on your chest!

Then burns them off again!
