one thing that always makes me emotional tho, is merlin talking about his life in ealdor. i mean, it’s canon that he’s always felt lonely, but he also always gives a particular vibe of deep loneliness in his village. he had will, of course, and his mum, but how scary it must have been to live where magic is outlawed, and you were born with it. he could move things with his mind before he could walk, and that is canon. how scary for hunith it must have been too.
especially that we know up until arriving in camelot merlin wasn’t really schooled (above already being really powerful and fully instinctual about his magic). he didn’t even really know the purpose of his magic, or what it did. his mindset in the very first episode was to ask gaius if he wasn’t a monster. to ask for the purpose of all if this.
