Title: Death Spiral
Summary: A Madoka Magica AU, in which Jazz is a magical girl with time-based powers, going through timeloops trying to save Danny from dying. Spectra is a witch — a creature of despair — who remembers the timeloops and wants Jazz to become a witch.
Content Warning: Death, Violence, Light Gore, and Suicidal Ideation
Excerpt:
The shadows swarm.
“Failure! Failure! Failure!”
“Your fault! Your fault! It’s always your fault!”
“You killed him! You did this! You keep doing this!”
“Monster. You’re a monster. And you know it.”
“What kind of sister are you?”
The thoughts reverberate—each her own voice, promising to destroy her—but imagine the sweet release—
And finally, the telltale claws slither up her shoulders.
Jazz snaps her hand out, grabbing Spectra by the neck.
The swarm disperses, revealing a leering shadow cut from Jazz’s figure.
“I told you to leave my brother alone.”
“You never visit, and when I call you, this is what I get? Pity.” Spectra’s claws linger on Jazz’s pulse.
“Danny is off limits!”
“You know how bored I get. Eating the same misery again and again gets stale.”
Jazz wills herself to remain stony.
“I could do with some fresh teenage angst—”
Jazz unleashes a wave of blue energy, rapidly aging Spectra’s figure. Releasing the witch, she turns away.
The Ocean has cared for Mermista since she was a babe, crawling through tidepools and roaring with laughter at the sensation of waves lapping at her toes. At nineteen, following the utter desertion of her father some years previous, she has little to occupy herself aside from her annual reread of all eighteen Mer-Mystery books and the occasional opportunity to traumatise a few sailors.
When her actions disturb her protector, Mermista is forced for the first time to disobey the Ocean in order to save the a life. Unfortunately, that life belongs to an awfully attractive and disturbingly endearing pirate who rather enjoys punishing her kind deed with greatly exaggerated tales of swashbuckling aventure. That, of course, is the universe's sense of humour kicking into gear.
Yet, even as she protests, there is something about Sea Hawk that makes her question this hyperconfident exterior of his... But if he is going to offer to do her laundry, gods know she will not be ruining a good thing by psychoanalysing the guy. Probably. If she can help herself.
...In other words, a tangled-inspired Seamista AU for the @spopbigbang event!! First chapter will be up on the 16th (If I survive my history exam, that is) (I jest. Mostly). Anyway, there will be art by both @gloriasaroace and @es272 , which, trust me, you want to see. They're both phenomenal and I have no business with bias.
It's called An Ace Up My Sleeve and will be up on my ao3 (mydarlingdearestdead)
I'm very excited to be paired with @notmydestiny and umbra (https://x.com/umbraria) to create art for my 2026 Big Bang fic, Sing Me Home. I can't wait for everyone to see it!

Adora is desperate to return to land and reunite with Catra. The other mermaids don't understand her obsession. They believe all surface dwellers are evil, and Adora's existence is further proof to them of that fact: Shadow stole Adora as a baby to exploit her voice for profit, and was likely involved in the death of her mother. Adora keeps trying anyway, but the damage from growing up on land and her inner turmoil are preventing her from transforming. Light Hope offers her a deal: she will use her magic to transform Adora back into a human for three days. If she is able to convince Catra to forgive her sudden disappearance without revealing her true nature, then Adora's magic will be brought back into balance through true love's kiss. If not, Adora will have to return to the ocean forever.
AKA The Little Mermaid AU
“You know you can't tell her where you've been, right?” Glimmer says. “She can't know about us.”
Most people don’t believe in mermaids anymore, but those that do pose a dangerous threat. What happened to Adora and her family is proof of that.
Adora knows that Catra would never betray a secret if she knew it really mattered, but she was always a skeptic when it came to the supernatural. If Adora told her she was a mermaid, Catra would either assume she was joking, or had completely lost it.
“I'll think of something,” Adora says. “Maybe she'll be so happy to see me again that we can get to the kissing before I have to explain why I left?”
Glimmer looks understandably skeptical. Maybe she and Catra are as doomed as everyone around her has been saying, but Adora has to try.
Glimmer swims over and gently removes the rock from Adora's grasp so that she can squeeze Adora's webbed hand in her own. “Alright. If you want to do this, I'll come with you to help.”
“You will?” Adora says, surprised. “Won't your mother disapprove?”
“That's never stopped me from going before,” Glimmer says with a wink. “Besides, you're not used to things up there anymore! How are you going to get around? Or pay for things? Or find Catra in the first place?”
Adora rolls her eyes. Sure, it's been a while, but she spent most of her life on the surface. She knows how it works.
“I'll find the closest public library to whatever beach I wash up on and use a computer,” Adora says. “If Catra's still an actor, she should be easy to find and contact online. If not…well, hopefully she's still on social media somewhere.”
“Not the worst plan,” Glimmer says. “But you're missing a crucial first step. How are you going to get clothes?"
Adora opens her mouth, then closes it again.
"Fine," Adora says. "Maybe the plan still has a few kinks to work out."
Glimmer laughs, and it sounds like wind chimes. “Leave it all to me.”
Here's a sneak peek at my newest fic, It's Not Me, It's You a Catradora / Glimbow Musician AU coming soon as part of the @spopbigbang
"Glimmer, my friend, my bestie, my platonic soulmate…" Catra took several calming breaths before she continued.
What she would really like to do was shake Glimmer until she got it through her sparkly pink head that there was no magical amount of good intentions or positive publicity that would make the tabloids suddenly respect her or see her side. But she hadn't grasped that yet that in the five years they'd known each other and it sure wasn't happening in the next twenty minutes before she needed to be on the air. So Catra attempted to salvage this situation by appealing to the one thing her friend might actually listen to.
"You keep saying you want them to stop talking about your personal life and respect you as a serious artist. Well, this is your chance to do that! Let the tabloids talk! Act like you don’t even care. Ignore the noise, go out there, sell the song and show them who you really are."
For all Glimmer’s fury she looked about half a second from bursting into tears. "You really think that will work?"
Honestly? No. This story had gotten big enough that DT had definitely heard by now. They'd use it to poke at all her weak points until Glimmer lost her shit on national TV because that was their whole thing. But the sad fact was that Catra had already prepared for this eventuality. And while Glimmer flipping out on national TV would be devastating for her friend personally... it’d still be really good publicity for the single.
And sometimes, if you wanted to win the game, you had to sacrifice your queen.
“It will totally work,” she lied, giving Glimmer a traitorous thumbs up. "Now let's get you into makeup."
