text: Look, this is probably going to end up as an unpopular post, because God knows the level of brainrot capitalism and fast consumption caused in people’s brains, but I’d rather not get TV shows for a while if it means writers get their rights defended and recognized.

Entertainment can’t come at the cost of fair pay, healthy work environment and ethical practices.

Because of the situation in Hollywood last year, a lot of television shows had shortened seasons or the quality was lesser or things felt rushed. I'd like to propose however, that instead of saying "Because of the SAG-AFTRA and writers' strikes..." we say "Because the corporations wouldn't negotiate and pay people..." Because the corporations refused to negotiate and pay people, a lot of television and film was affected and the quality was worse. Put the blame where it belongs. This should go for anything that gets struck. There's an autoworkers' strike and your new car gets delayed? Because Ford/Chevy/Whoever wouldn't negotiate and pay workers, the car was delayed. You're not dissatisfied with the union. You're dissatisfied with the corporation.

Loved the Hotd trailer, it looked 🔥.

But I can't fully get myself to be completely excited about it. I'm just really hung-up on the fact that they kept working during the writer's strike, and all the weird inconsistencies and writing weaknesses in season 1 are probably going to be ten times worse in season 2 😭

Disney+ Stiffing Doctor Who Writers?

Oh, you knew there was a catch to Doctor Who moving to Disney+. And now we know what it is.

Up until now, writers got residuals, which meant any time an episode re-aired they got some money. As you can imagine, for a long-running, oft-repeated show like Doctor Who this is a pretty big deal. Now, with the new Disney+ regime, writers are getting "buy-outs" - cash upfront and no residual payments.

Slowly working through my old childhood dvd collection, and I can't help but thinking that DC would benefit immensely from just. using older source material. So much creativity was put aside for profit. And yes, I know that profit is what drives every business etc. etc. capitalism yadda yadda.

But you shouldn't need a doctorate in Character-specific Lore just so you can read a comic run or watch the latest movie. The MCU is obviously a major perpetrator, but DC hasn't had enough successes to even attempt over-complicating, which I guess is a good thing in its own way. Let the JSA fight some cheesy looking aliens for a few episodes, just because it makes a good story.

Of course this all comes down to the studios constantly trying to squeeze every cent out of a property, which means shorter seasons spread thinner in order to milk the hype.

We need filler episodes!

We need more 13 or 24 episode seasons!

We need shows to be less about producing content and more about doing it because its what people would watch even without the incentive being put on the audience to push for more.

And yes, it goes without saying that the artists & writers should take as long as needed to get things done right, with fair compensation. I don't wan't this to in any way come off as some anti-union whining.

This whole post is a rambling mess but it wasn't even a decade ago when things weren't nearly as fucked as they are now, and it drives me nuts that I could see the trend coming as a child.

In short: Support unions (the animators are looking to a possible strike next year!) Let the people in positions of power know that you're watching (even though, as stated, the fact that campaigning like this is even necessary is ridiculous) And of course, preserve media in its physical form when possible so that it can't be taken away from you!

This whole ordeal is finally coming to an end.

After a grueling 118 days, these are the tears of joy running down not only on Benjamin's face, but I'm sure on many other actors who have had been struggling during all these days.
