I just learned that the most popular book series in the world — yes, Harry Potter, put your wands down — has “and”, “the”, and “said” in its top ten most used words.

That’s right. Not “ejaculated” 😏 Not “orbs” Not “Draco Malfoy with his sleek blond hair and his sparkly grey eyes" 😏 Not “smirked darkly” 😏

Just:

✨ the ✨ and ✨ said

So if you’re staring at your draft like “I’ve used ‘said’ three times in this paragraph, I'm a bad writer" — congratulations. You are writing at a globally successful author level. 💃💃💃

Stop fighting the shitty English language. It will always win. Close that thesaurus tab. Go on. I’ll do it with you.

Let “said” live. Let it breathe. Let it do its boring little job. If we’re going down for using it three times in one paragraph, we’re going down together.

Anyway this has been your daily permission slip to stop torturing yourself over synonyms and go write the damn thing. Quickly! Before I open the thesaurus again by accident.

i’m a writer. i’ve been writing for as long as i’ve known. i’ve written every day since sixth grade—my wordcount spans from 1 to 10,000 words per day. i’ve had wattpad for five years. tumblr for three. twitter for two. ao3 for one. i’ve written more words than i can count, i’ve written single novels with over 100,000 that will never see the light of day. i’ve written fiction. i’ve written fanfiction. i’ve written screenplays. i’ve written most every genre. just because i only have 4 works on ao3 doesn’t mean i’m an immature writer. just because you don’t see my progress doesn’t mean i don’t make any. just because you don’t know me doesn’t mean you can judge me as a writer. i’ve walked many moons with this pen and you have no right to judge that unless you’ve walked in my moccasins. just because i’m a teenager doesn’t mean i don’t know how to write. i’m going to be published one day. just wait.

You know how it is! Writers don't have time to write fulfilling conclusions to the story of everybody who just marginally appears in their stories. If they had that kind of time or interest or writing ability, why would they do what they did to Barb Holland in Stranger Things? Sometimes fucking a character in the ass and tossing them in the garbage is the only move an auteur has left, time and money being what they are. You know, time and money!
