Confessions of a Writer

So here's the honest to god truth of the matter. I suck at blogging. No really, I do. I read somewhere that about 19 out of 20 writers are introverts. That's a lot. I suck at math though, so don't make me work it out as a percentage. The crux of the matter is that I'm an introvert. A really big introvert. Writing books and stories I have no problems with. Those are things that I want to be read. I wrote those with the intention of them being read. But a big part of blogging is putting yourself out there and posting about whatever weird and wonderful things happen to flitter through your head. As an introvert, this isn't a natural thing to me. So many times a day I will think of something that's funny or enlightening or just bloody brilliant and I think, 'Huh, I should put that on tumblr/facebook/twitter/insertyoursocialmediaofchoicehere', and then I just... don't.

Unfortunately in order to have any form of success as a writer, people need to actually read what you wrote. And people can't do that if they a) don't know who you are and b) can't find what you've written.

This, my friends, is the torturous device known as a 'Writer's Platform'. And unfortunately having one of these, a good one of these, is necessary to gain any sort of following or readership.

So, 20th time's the charm ey?

Which Comes First?

Which comes first? No, not the chick or the egg debate; although, I’m certain it’s a fascinating subject.

 I’m talking about craft versus platform.  As a writer, I’m sure you read as many articles as I on the importance of having a healthy and engaging platform. After all, if no one knows you’re a writer, why would anyone be interested in reading your stories or books.
