Researching the etymology of the word “blow-job” has left me very confused.
Both SILVER ON THE ROAD and Gin & Tonic #4 go to their respective editors this week. Yes, I had two book deadlines the same month. No, that wasn't ideal. Yes, I'm pretty much worn to a frazzle right now and because of that convinced that both are utter dreck and if I only had more time...
And did I mention that both editors are new-to-me, work-wise? (I like 'em both, and obviously they like my work, but this ups the stress level considerably) So yeah, becauseofstress my sense of competence is pretty low right now. One of those days where all the patpats and theretheres in the world won't do fuck-all, but one unexpected positive review in the media would refill the well. Not that I don't love y'all and I know you're passing fond of me, but this isn't about me it's about the work. I guess there's a downside to being able to separate the two, huh? this too shall pass. this too shall pass. this too shall pass. this too shall pass. this too shall pass. this too shall pass. this too shall pass. this too shall pass. this too shall pass. this too shall pass. And did I mention that DOGHOUSE launches in three weeks? I might be recovered enough by then to do more than kick it out of the house, but no guarantees.
Writing...
I basically started writing seriously on a whim. I was sitting in class in 2009/2010 and got a fairly average mark for some creative writing assignment, it was THEN that I decided on the spot that I would get my shit in order and become better at writing. This ultimately led to me signing up for National Novel Writing Month for the first time and alongside this experience. I quickly became better and faster at writing, pumping out four novels in the 2010-2011. From there, I decided to scale it back a bit (partially as a result of the whole HSC thing) and focusing on improving the quality of my writing. So I've been writing smaller short story pieces all year and this desire to improve the quality of my writing in turn led to me playing around with poetry. I even ended up playing around with scripts as part of my major work for school.
In short. First I got decent at writing, then I got quick, then I diversified what I can write.
The problem, is that I have no idea how to progress from here. I keep working at improving my writing with everything I write but I don't know what to write. Do I sit down and have another crack at novel writing? Do I go for scripts? Do I stick to these short-as-hell pieces of writing?
I just have no idea.
