Chapter 49, TBT Steampunk Chronicles.
049 The end is all that matters
Robin gasped, feeling the breath leave her lungs in a hiss. It was him, how could he? After all Robin had done for him? Looking through the keyhole she quieted her breathing. She had managed to sneak into the capital ship. Evading guards and personnel had been a little too easy.
Staring through the Keyhole and into the office she could see why. They had a plan, something that they weren’t expecting. They knew, the capital knew that the fight was being brought to their doorstep. All because of him.
Robin felt a rage fly through her veins. So many of their people were dead. So many. Because of him.
“You've done well Alexander.” The man Chuckled. Robin couldn’t see his face, or any part of him. He faced away from her sitting in a chair looking through large Bay windows. A chill went down her spine. She didn’t know who this man was.
She had never met him before, but for some reason…
She felt afraid. his presence seemed to take up the entire room, and she couldn't help but be frightened.
Alexander bowed his head. “Thank you sir.”
“For now, we commence with the plan. Those fools won’t know what hit them.” He gave a throaty chuckle. Robin leaned forward quietly. She needed to know this plan.
“The bombs will rain down all over the capital. That should rid the vermin out of the city don't you think?” He laughed. Robin felt her heart stop. Bombs? She looked through uneased she was wondering what look the man had on his face, especially when she caught a glimpse of Alexanders terrified face.
“But sir,”Alexander hesitated, ‘What about the civilians?”
The man paused, and Robin shivered. A coldness filled the room. “You think I care about Traitors?” he said, his voice soft and hushed. Alexander shook his head frantically. “N-No sir! I-”
The man snorted. “Anyway, the bombs will be dropped soon. After that I will take command of the capital forces. After that…” He laughed.
“Well, after that The world seems ripe for me to take.”
Robin gave a loud gasp, and immediately placed a hand over her mouth.
Alexander whipped his head toward the door, and the man started to slowly rise.
Robin backed up and took off running.
Grabbing something from her back she held up the hand held Radio. As she ran she tried to radio in. “Dammit!” Robin growled. Soon the static started to change and she heard Jared’s voice. Hope filled her veins if she could just get him to hear her.
“Jared!” She shouted. Now on the main deck of the capital ship. She looked around frantically. Guards are surrounding her.
“Robin?!” he sounded frantic. “Robin where are you.”
“That doesn’t matter now!” She rushed. “Listen! You need to pull back the troops! It’s a trap!”
Jared was silent, and Robin prayed he heard her. She backed up toward the ships railing. more and more people were gathering close, and Robin felt her breath hitch.
Jared came back then. “Robin, I’ve radioed the troops that I could. I’m starting on the Evac procedure.”
Robin felt tears gather in her eyes, and she couldn’t help but give a sad smile.
“Jared...:” her voice was soft. A man came forward a pistol in his hands. He stared into her eyes coldly, and she stared back.
“Robin? Exactly where are you?” his voice started to grow with panic.
“The lions den. I’m not gonna make it. Jared do me a favor...”
She could hear Jared fantic breaths as he Realized exactly what was going on.
“Tell Thomas I-” The signal cut out. Robin smiled sadly. Throwing the radio overboard she took out a cylinder from her belt. As her rubber glove pressed a button, the object elongated into the trident like weapon she was known for. As static crackled to life she got ready to take as many down with her as she could.
She felt the ship give a mighty jerk, and she lost her balance. Gripping the railing behind her she lost her staff. She winced, she loved that thing. Soon all thought left her mind as she felt like she was floating.
The ship was falling out of the air. Gripping the railing tightly she screamed. As they crashed she was thrown backward, thankfully the ship took most of the impact, as she was thrown off, and away from the fire.
All she could feel was the pain in her limbs, and the pounding in her head. As she felt a wetness creep down her forehead feeling she could only hope Jared got word out.
Because, the end was all that mattered.
With that everything went black.
