The Hume Hotel in beautiful Nelson, British Columbia, just launched their revamped website.

You may be asking yourself, "So what?"

Well, it's one of the coolest heritage hotels in Western Canada, a cornerstone in one of the best little arts towns in North America, and all the copy-writing work for their site was done by the only known Tyler Austin Bradley in the universe.

Seriously though, the Hume Hotel is a super rad hotel, kind of hip meets heritage- it houses a super fun bar (Mike's Place), Spirit Bar entertainment lounge (club-like), and a pile of other great services.  And the rooms are great.

Just a couple blocks off the west arm of Kootenay Lake, the hotel is right smack in the middle of Nelson. If you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods, check it out.

The Block

It's official- the dreaded block is upon me, a quadrangular monkey on my back that is keeping me from making any progress on my current assignment.

Yes, "writer's block," the literary equivalent of erectile dysfunction, the marked difference being that there is no panacea or pill for the 'block.  

Run with the similes, that might help...

It's like trying to put a square block through a round hole.

Yeah, good one, in-line with the whole sex-thing still, too.

It's not like hiccups- scaring yourself, holding your breath or having someone else hold it for you won't help any, though it might create a welcome, momentary distraction from your otherwise poorly penned performance.

Wordplay.

Perfunctory pebble pitchers pluck posies past, present, precognitive.

Nope. Still nothing.  And kick-starting with a variety of substances isn't doing it either.  

Maybe a walk.  Around the block.

Shit, really?  REALLY?  Rhyming, man?  It's worse than I thought...

The 5ifth

Today I start the process of screenwriting a feature length, genre bender of a story.  Scotty Carlson of Juicy Studios and I have been slinging hash on this project for six months now, and I have (sort of) cleared my schedule this weekend to give it some love and attention.  The premise and plot are unfortunately top-secret at this stage, but it's fair to say this is going to require and command all my writing prowess (or expose my lack thereof) in its execution. 

Working title: "The 5ifth" 

I don't want to get all hung up on page count (I'm obviously more interested in producing good content), but I am curious to see how much I can crank out over the next three days.  As a time sensitive challenge, it takes me back to the 72 hour novel contest I did six years back.

I will report back "when and as time permits..."

Ha-ha! A clever reference to the plot.
