A while ago, I finished the fanfic ‘Until We Get There’ and promised to do this little writing lab thing, but plenty of things happened and it wasn’t until today that I had time.

Writing Lab ~ Until We Get There Fandom: That ‘70s Show. Ship(s): Jackie Burkhart/Steven Hyde. Word count: 39k609 Warnings: Post-season 7, future fic, soulmate au, pregnancy scare. Summary: [Soulmate AU] Running away from their own wedding is the craziest thing Hyde and Jackie have ever done together. But the tug he feels at his heart when realizing she doesn't want to marry him? The worst.

Thank you SO much for all the support you all gave me with your comments and favorites. It means a lot. Especially when this week, the 18th, my first fanfic on this fandom is celebrating it's first birthday.

'For Things I Don't Have Words' marks a year since I joined this fandom and I'm very happy, and very proud to be around. So thank you once more for all the love, it's good to be here. And I'm glad you have enjoyed my writing.

As part of the Zenmasters Anthology moderators, I want to thank every participant and reader for our project. In the next months we will be announcing the second annual project that will be developed in the same dates with a new different set of prompts with a new theme.

~ Experience: writing

Some of you may know, I ha it bad writing this fic. I couldn’t have the idea out as I wanted, and for months I struggled with it. By consequence, I had a lot of support from my friends and it gave me strenght to keep writing. 

It wasn’t fun, to be honest, but I’m very proud of this fanfic. It made me realize my english has improved and so has my writing. 

This is by far the most serious thing I have posted in this fandom, and I think I like it almost as much as I like A Primar For The Lost Hunter. Maybe one day I will write something better than that.

~ Experience: publishing

Feedback was weird for this fic. Things has been getting slowler in the fandom lately, and when I was posting, it was the time when it started. So it was very hard and at times, it did made me feel bad. 

But looking back at it, this was also the one fanfic that made me think, “fuck this”. But also, I haven’t posted anything ever since, so who knows, really.

~ World building

I thought a lot about this universe, which may be one of the things that made me love this story as much as I do.

Planning the soulmate thing for this story made me write a lot of stuff that didn’t make into the story because it was just context for me to write this universe in which we know who we may end up with.

It was complicated stuff because I thought, what if some of us are born with this ability? Are we going to accept them or are we going to demonize them? History has thought me a lot, and I knew they would be coded freaks immediately, so I worked with that and my own experience of being a minority, as a WOC, mental ill and queer person.

Like many others, I knew Hyde would not believe in the soulmate thing since the beginning, and I decided to approach it in a very hard way because in my universe, not everyone has the ability to listen to their soulmate’s thoughts for the rest of their lives after hearing them that one time as kids.

He was going to deny himself it, act like if he wasn’t one of those poor people and it was all because of the ay he was educated and the world he grow up in.

Making the contrast between his education and Jackie’s, and Jackie’s optimism and his negativeness, was a lot of fun. Espeically when the tables turned and now was him the one worried Jackie didn’t want to marry him.

I enjoyed writing this fic and building this entire universe.

~ What’s next

After this fic, I didn’t had anything. I’m still working in other stuff some of you already know about, like Drive It Like You Stole It and I Believe In Unicorns, and the other soulmate AU I have, Wear My Arms.

Right now, my only, let’s call it “real”, project I have is my next ZMA entry in 2018.

Hey nina! What is your favorite fanfic you have written so far?

WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT? You are killing me, man!

Okay, let’s just talk about the ones I have published so far. Because If I include the ones I’m still working on, none of you will know what I am talking about lol. Also, I’ll be only listing 5 and only works in english.

So, let’s hit it:

1. A Primer For The Lost Hunter

Fandom: Star Wars

Ship: Poe/Bem

This will probably always be my favorite piece from me. The narrative is my greatest accomplishment when it comes to fanfiction, all of it. Poe’s characterization was important to me, I couldn’t let him be out of character and I tried hard to make everything make sense to not only him, but the reader, the story and myself. It was hard, but I’m incredibly proud of it.

2. Heart Like Yours

Fandom: That ‘70s Show

Ship: Hyde/Jackie

My first long as hell fanfic I have ever published in english, and also my first long work on the t70s fandom. This fanfiction means a lot to me when it comes to fandom history and fan reaction, but also because I learned alot working on it. Writing it was an adventure, the feedback I got for it is amazing and I’m still in awe with the response it got. It’s fantastic.

3. As The World Falls Down

Fandom: Star Wars 

Ship: Poe/Ben

I could easily mention all of my BenPoe works on this list, it was a ship that helped me a lot as a person and as a writer, and also the longest and most worked stuff I did in english for the first time ever. And this fic in particular, was also my first fandom event and it went amazing for me. I just really like this fanfic, I’m impressed also with how quickly I wrote it.

4. Night Nurse

Fandom: The Martian 

Ship: Beck/Johanssen

LMAO, this one is not only funny but absolutely a delight for me. It was incredible to write it and it’s still amazing to re-read it sometimes. Funny enough, this is my johanbeck work with less attention, people tend to go more for porn and things like that, than other more... substantial stuff. But that’s just fine.

5. He’s Our Happy Ever After

Fandom: HBO Girls

Ship: Adam/Jessa

A couple I never thought I would end up loving so much as I do now, all the little fanfics I have wrote for this couple are of my favorites. But this one shines in its own, even when is the shortest one I have done for them. I loved the poetic ambient I did for it and the scene is just too cute to not mention it.

Writing Lab: Heart Like Yours ~

Last saturday, I published the last chapter of my fanfiction, ‘Heart Like Yours’, a fic I started writing in summer last year and started publishing, thanks to my friends support (more about this later), on september last year.

This is my first, let’s say, big fanfic I finish not only in the That ‘70s Show fandom but also, in english. Until HLY, I had only written and published fanfics in english that were one-shots or four-shots. For me, this is a big deal.

Writing Lab ~ Heart Like Yours Fandom: That ‘70s Show. Ship(s): Jackie Burkhart/Steven Hyde, Jackie Burkhart/Original Male Character. Word count: 139,890 Warnings: Post-season 8, future fic, supernatural events. Summary: Jackie goes home to Point Place for Donna and Eric's wedding, but an accident and an unexpected experience may show her a reality she never thought was happening around her.

~ Author’s Note

WOAH! I did it! Man, you have no idea how freaking excited and proud I am of me. 

When I first started writing this fic, I actually wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to finish it. Not only because of the whole theme, but the fandom. I was new to it and I didn’t know what to expect.

But seeing all the support it got as I kept writing and talking to my first two friends in the fandom, Prissy and Misty, I was able to keep going and finally, FINALLY, it was ready to start publishing. An advice I got from MistyMountainHop and that I believe it’s great.

Writing this story made me grow as an author, too. This is the first long fanfic I have wrote in it’s enterity in english. This time, I didn’t write first in spanish, then translated. No, I sat down and wrote everything in english.

This is what makes me even more proud of myself, because I finally did it. I fought that fear of writing in this other language and publishing my stuff, and it wasn’t bad. It wasn’t bad at all.

~ Experience: writing

Like I mentioned, this fic made me grow as an author. 

Something, aside from tasting the fandom and writing in english, that gave me strenght while working on this fic, was how it allowed me to understand certain characters and relationships I wasn’t really putting attention to while watching the show.

My attention was all in Jackie and Hyde when I entered the fandom, but writing HLY and experimenting with POVs, gave me the chance to understand the rest of the characters and their relationship between them. It also made me realize there is no much more to explore, I want to keep writing just because of this.

~ Experience: publishing

The fandom surprised me in a good way.

When I decided to start visiting the tags, I saw great activity for a show that has been over for more than ten years. I found out there were pretty active bloggers that are also writers and are still publishing t70s fanfics.

Seeing the response of other fans at those works and the small one-shots I first published, I decided it was time.

This fandm is supportive and talkative, which makes me really happy. At least for what I’ve seen in my stories, this fandom is wonderful and I’m grateful for the support and all the feedback.

~ World building

One thing I had clear since the beginning while writing HLY was that this was, more than a JH story, a Jackie story. I wanted her to grow, I wanted her to see how loved she is, I wanted her to be happy.

I builded the rest of the story around the fact that Jackie had left Point Place at some point, had found somoene else but ultimately decided to go back home. Slowly, things were changing (in fact, there are things that are completely different from the first draft to the final result) and HLY’s verse got form.

Hyde was an element that costed me a lot. I didn’t wanted him miserable, but I wanted to explore and explain his season 8 behavior, without having to actually write nor talk about the things that took place in season 8.

While his s8 mistakes are mentioned, I didn’t want to deep on it but in what may had caused part of it. The use of stronger drugs than the ones he is used to was a very difficult desicion to make for me, because I don’t believe canon Hyde, aka Hyde from s2 to 3, and 5, would actually put himself in that situation.

But that Hyde would also never do such things that s8!Hyde did to Jackie. So here’s when it all went for me. This allowed me to make him grow as a person, and to grow closer to his biological family.

The creation of the extended family and characterization of the Barnetts is something I treasure with all my heart, and it also allowed me to give Hyde a home and place to bleed when necessary while Jackie wasn’t with him. 

It gave me the chance of making them into someone aside from their relationship, something that later would make a difference in how things would go with them.

Ultimately, Hyde and Jackie are soulmates to me and they will always find their way into each other’s arms.

~ What’s next

My next project is the Zenmasters Anthology project called ‘Until We Get There’. It won’t be as long as HLY, but it seems like it will be as deep or even more deeper. 

There’s a lot going on in this fic, and it has a lot of M rated scenes. I think I’m doing this because I didn’t got to explore that in HLY, in a way.

After this, I still have plenty of ideas to work in. You can find them here, some of these fics I have already started writing them. Aside form that, I have two one-shots finished at the moment and I’m trying to finish some more.

I have a lot of prompts to write, too. I’m enjoying a lot being in this fandom and writing for it, so at some point, I may be able to publish a fic a month. Or even a week, if my muse keeps as inspired as it is right now.

~ Final thanks

To the person that first believed in me and my writing, @supernannygirl704things / @that70sshowgoldencouple who encoragued me to write and publish HLY since day one. Ever since I told her about the idea, she showed interest and entusiam about it, always making me know I could do it.

And if it wasn’t enough, she’s also the person who beta’ed the entire fic, with the expetion of some chapters. But believe me when I say that I would had never done it without her.

Next is @jessmoriano, my little brother, who made me watch t70s in the first place and who predicted I was going to ship the hell out of Hyde and Jackie. His support and love helped me a lot into getting HLY and other stories out.

I want to thank my friends @hydejackies and @queerafrey. These girls slept until three am listening/reading me rant about my plot, they always read and comment my work and they made HLY a great experience for me.

Last but no less important, I want to thank the amazing author and friend @those70scomics / @thestupidhelmet. Ever since I first read her work, I wanted to publish too. Reading her masterpiece, ‘Hyde’s Long Way Home’, I realized there may be a chance to publish my own supernatural fanfic in the fandom.

When we started to talk and I saw she was reading my fanfic, I almost died out of happiness. I’m very honored she read HLY and liked it as much as she has expressed. Thank you, thank you so much for your love and support, and for your encorguement.

from all the new characters you created, who is your favorite and why?

Those would be Izzy, Milo and Bruce.

Milo is a character that has a lot to deal with and that’s my kind of favorite character, those you can work with and write so much to help them figure out their shit. Besides, he’s cute and I got attached to him while writing HLY, especially when I started to talk about his backstory.

We have Bruce as his best friend, he’s a latino boy raised in the USA and he’s a writer, like Milo and Donna. He’s funny and is always there for his friends, which allowed me to give Milo some rest and Jackie some reason. He is also like, this part of Milo that does likes Hyde, and writing them three (four with Eric) was really something. I liked it a lot, and it’s something I’m looking forward in DILYSI and QoN.

Izzy, on the other hand, she’s everything. I wondered how Hyde’s new found family would take him in or if they would at all. We only saw WB and Angie, but all families has extended family too and that’s how Ethan and Izzy came into mind.

A working family that got what they have from their own hands, I didn’t want Izzy to be some bitter grandma like most grandmas are wrote. But I also didn’t want her to be enterely sweet and cute, like the other half of the grandmas are wrote constantly. Instead, she’s a strong woman with a loving heart, maternal voice but sarcastic reactions that colide perfectly with Hyde’s.

She’s an interesting character to me and she will still appear in other stories, maybe she’s the character that will be more constant in my stories, from the ones I have created.

What was your favorite thing about writing this fanfic?

Well, I got to explore everyone’s feelings towards Jackie and I got to have her see it too. I love Jackie and I needed to do this fic, man. And it’s great because it also got me to explore other characters without her, which also inspired me to do another big time work like DILYSI, that is more centrated on Hyde.

Favorite moment of the fic?

I can’t dedice just one, but I think it would be between Jackie seeing Hyde for the first time in the hospital (when she’s standing looking at him as he looks at Kat leave); Jackie shaving Hyde’s beard when they lived together; the entire scene of Hyde talking to Eric in the terrace, all of it. Included Jackie’s POV and all he says; Milo and Jackie’s first kiss; Izzy telling Hyde what his name means; and the proposal :)
