Cyberpunk For The People
So, I wrote this little manifesto/critique of cyberpunk for a writing jam over on itch and some people seem to have liked it and I figured I’d share it here also. It’s pay-what-you-want, so you can just download it and read it if you want, but if you also wanted to kick me a couple bucks for a coffee that’d be cool too.
Because this is a jam project and I had a very limited time frame to work in its not the most polished thing I could have produced. I actually think I want to revisit this at some point and flesh it out, really get more into specifics about certain topics like policing and the Orientalism that early cyberpunk works engaged in, and whose aesthetics modern cyberpunk is steeped in. For example, with regard to police in cyberpunk, my educational background is in criminology and I think a section about police/noir/the history of police as slave catchers and how those things inform modern cyberpunk would be really compelling--there’s some of that in there now, but I could definitely do more.
However, this is it for now, as I am deep into writing a new novella and am very focused on that.
