Reddit Writing Prompt Response: Bringing fists to a wizard duel

Randulus preferred to be referred to as 'Randulus the Mighty' by his peers. More often than not, his peers referred to him as 'Randulus the Prick' behind his back. His better than thou pompous attitude rubbed everyone the wrong way, from his fellow students to even the faculty. Unfortunately, he had the magical skills to back it up, he was undefeated in wizarding duels.

Then came the day he decided to pick on the new kid, Greg, from the mysterious domain known as New Jersey.

Randulus approached him in the sitting room, knocking his book out of his hands and pointing with an accusatory finger.

"New boy," he exclaimed. "I dont believe you've paid your due respect to the greatest wizard of his age."

Greg did not reply.

"Very well, I see no other course of action than to challenge you to a duel!" Randulus replied. "The field will be mythology. I'll go easy on you and set level at four. The duel is to yield only-"

The pompous wizard is interrupted abruptly as Greg stands from his seat and clocks him across the chin with a right hook. The so called greatest wizard of his change squeals in a very unflattering fashion as he falls to the ground. Greg does not let up, continuing to punch him as quickly as he can as he collapsed.

Before long, Randulus is reduced to a sobbing mess on the ground. Greg, very calmly, picks up his book and exits the scene, returning to his room.

And thus, the reputation of Randulus is forever stained, the day he got his ass kicked by the kid from new jersey.

I have always experimented love as something rough. It has been scrubbing my body until it stings, brushing my hair with wide and firm brush stokes, brushing my teeth until my gums bleed. It has been the tap on my hand, not so hard to show anger, but resolute enough to say "be more focused next time".

I didn't really understand why my friends got so upset when I told them off about something they did and sometimes it keeps making me puzzled how they can just be so carefree about things, like there'd be a more "right" way to do them than theirs. Somehow I've discovered that correcting people isn't a way to show love. Yes, I have still this forceful tendency to make them better than who they are, but I remember myself I'm not better than them, that it's not my duty to improve them and that, maybe, they're already more than ok just the way they're. 

Moreover, I've understood that I can let myself be soft, even if I always fear someone will stab me in the back. It'll probably happen, some day, but this isn't a justification to harden my heart and build a wall around myself, not letting people in. Sometimes I fear that being openly caring and not gruff brings people to not take me seriously, and for someone, it's a sign of weakness, even when it's the contrary that shows how much you're vulnerable and frightened.

Everyone just wants to be petted on the hair and be taken care of, but to care so much, to be so sure of others' affection to allow themselves to be worried and to comfort their loved ones. It's an human trait and every effort to try and get rid of it is a blow to our humanity.

so i had an idea for a humans are space orcs story. What if earth is the only inhabited planet with tectonic plates. This would mean aliens wouldn't have earthquakes which are caused by plates pushing against each other or mountains which is when one plate pushes another up. It might change more than that i'm not sure but can you imagine the first time they experienced an earthquake.

Groch’nal had never been to the human homeworld before. He was nervous, partially because of the planet’s reputation, but also because he was going to meet his boyfriend’s parents for the first time.

Groch’nal had met Dmitri roughly six cycles ago, when they served on a merchant ship together. They entered their current level of relationship about two and a half cycles ago, and had mutually decided that it was time to introduce each other to their respective set of parents.

Groch’nal tried already to get his brood mother to allow them to visit, but she refused, saying she would never accept their relationship, and disowning him over the video call. Dmitri, however, had had a bit more luck.

Groch’nal entirely forgot his fear once they arrived at Dmitri’s parents’ place of residence. They all had a pleasant meal together, and Groch’nal felt loved and welcomed in a way that he never had before. All was fine until early the next morning, before the sun rose, when the ground began to shake.

Groch’nal was, to say the least, rather startled to wake up to what felt like the planet being torn apart. He shot out of bed, joined a moment later by Dmitri.

“Dmitri!” Groch’nal exclaimed. “What is happening? Are we under attack?!”

“It’ll be alright,” replied Dmitri. It seems we are having an earthquake. Rather bad luck, but it’s a fairly minor one. Follow me, we need to get under the table in the dining room.”

“What is an earthquake?!” cried Groch’nal. “Why are we getting under a table? Shouldn’t we be making our way to the evacuation ships?”

“There is no need for evacuation ships,” said Dmitri. “We are getting under the table because it will protect us if the house starts falling down. As for what an earthquake is; basically, there are huge tectonic plates under the surface of the earth, and right now there are two of them that are grinding together along a fault line. That grinding is what is causing all the shaking. The nearest fault line is about fifty kilometers east of here, so that’s probably where it’s coming from. Any other questions?”

“No,” Groch’nal replied numbly.

“Good,” said Dmitri. “Now lets get under that table.”

Groch’nal refused to return to Earth after that visit, no matter how much Dmitri explained about it. He decided that humanity had definitely earned the title of Space Orcs.

Dear “a new start”,

There are days I feel new every second of the day, and days when it feels like I’ll never be new again. I think the issue is you are new every time I meet you. A January morning. A Sunday afternoon. A job offer. A word I write that hits me. A thoughtful moment. A new start never looks the same to me. Different faces on. I can’t recognize it always. So, sometimes I feel as if I haven’t had one in years.

I’d like to say here and now, though, thank you for continuing to show up. New starts keep me motivated. It’s nice to know you’re there in places I haven’t thought to look. A stranger’s hello. A smile. A whim. All of these are you, aren’t they?

Thank you for being flexible. For changing, always. For keeping me alive. I owe you so much. I recognize you everywhere.

New year, new beginning, isn't it?

As a person who hasn't ever believed so much in new year's resolutions or liked New Year's Eve, I have always thought that if you want to change, you can do this every moment of your life. You don't need things like that. But then, I haven't been big for changes and changing so my usual disposition was to wait for things to change themselves, without a strong contribution by myself, and then to be surprised when (really rarely) the change happened. 

Now, while I'm writing this post, I see this attitude as passive and harmful for my own interests, if not for myself directly. Last year, in this same period, I was in a sort of fling with one of my friends. I was doing all my exams and passing and I was sure I'd enter in the Erasmus exchange project to go study at a university in a foreign country. Today, I still have two exams from last year to do, I'm almost not talking with that friend, and I'm obviously at home instead of being in a different country. It seems the beginning of a tragedy but it's the contrary: last year I didn't have any ideas of my future and I wasn't completely aware of what I was.

Shortly after that moment, I entered a crisis: I didn't study, I wasn't happy, and I really didn't know what to do with my life in general, So not only I didn't know what to do with my future (which is a difficult question for everybody) but also I didn't know what to do with myself in everyday life. Every day was so useless and similar to the last one that I didn't recognize the time passing. It took a very heartbreaking scene with my parents and a scolding from my older brother to realize I was wasting my life for nothing at all.

So, I really felt like a period of my life was closing when the last days of the past year approached. I knew I needed to actively change myself because in the past I used to rely on the decisions of others without being sure of what I wanted from my future let alone doing something about it. Then I’d regret a little every opportunity I didn't get, and I know I'm not that and I don't want to become that person. But I was for a time and I frighten me a lot. I don't think it’ll be easy for me to have a new start and probably I'll fail, but I need to set my priorities straight and to think more closely about who I am and who I want to be, because no one will do it for me. 

I want to build up a better and newer me, who pursues her interests and her education, who can be friendly with strangers and build relationships with them. I want to finally learn another language, to choose which course I'll do to finish my university's education and find what my life goals are, because it's cool that I perfectly know what I don't want from life, but I have to build a different model, tailor-made for me.

This year represents a new beginning for me and I'm not going be an obstacle to myself.

Chloe Price had expected her evening to be eventful, given that she was going to a Firewalk concert that she was definitely not supposed to be going to. What she had not counted on was the precise sequence of events that would unfold. Once she’d gotten into the mill, she had the misfortune of bumping into a couple of dickheads, spilling one of their beers on them, and thus pissing them off to the point of attempting to jump her on the unstable, and subsequently deserted, second floor. She had also not been counting on one of the most popular girls in school saving her from the aforementioned dickheads, and leading her down to the dance floor, where they spent a while enjoying each other’s company. The biggest surprise of the evening, however, was the appearance of childhood friend, Max, who left her when she needed her most.

When the mousy, timmid girl first approached, Chloe was stunned speachless. Here was her best friend, returned from wherever it was she fucked off to so soon after her dad died, leaving her to cope with the loss virtually alone. When she found her words, her astonishment became indignation and fury.

“What the Hell, Max?! What do you think you’re doing here?! You leave me right after my dad dies in a wreck, you don’t call or even send me a Fucking Postcard, and now you just show up here?! Do you expect me to forgive you? Do you honestly believe you deserve it?”

Chloe’s voice falters towards the end, as her burning rage simmers down to the painful ache of hurt and betrayal. She didn’t fail to notice how Max had flinched at each question, though it was clear from the extent of it that she’d been expecting such a reaction. After a brief moment of silence, cut short just before it could become awkward, Max spoke in a somewhat urgent manner.

“I don’t ask for, or expect, your forgivness, Chloe, and I don’t think I deserve it either, but I need you to listen to me. Some really bad stuff is going to happen soon, and you need to get yourself and Rachel out of this town before it does. I know you have no reason to believe me, but I’m telling you the truth. There’s going to be a huge fire a few days from now, but the real danger is in Blackwell. You need to leave. Both of you.”

At this point, Chloe remembers that there are, in fact, other people in the room, a few of which are now looking strangely in her direction. Among those looking was Rachel, who had been totally unprepared for the outburst and the conversation that followed.

“Why should I believe any of this shit?” Chloe asked. “More importantly, how the hell do you know any of this stuff? And how did you even know I was here?”

“I can’t explain how I know,” Max replied, “but hopefully you’ll see I’m right soon enough and get the hell out of here. There’s nothing more I can do. In a few minutes I’m probably not going to remember any of this conversation, so don’t be too surprised if I look at you funny when you ask about it. As to how I knew you were here, I did some digging, made a guess or two, and took some pictures. It’ll make sense later, hopefully.”

Onece she finished speaking, Max retreated to some other part of the mill, leaving Chloe to explain to Rachel what just happened. The two spent a bit more time at the concert, then went home. They didn’t see Max again that evening.

Aight so, what bout if someone falls down a cliff (not a very big one) on accident so all da aliens think they’re dead but then they’re not? So how? And they’re really confused and stuff

Jesica and Tch’Aglox are performing a routine perimeter check of their encampment on Salaxis IV.

Jesica: Yo, Ag, watch me do this backflip!

Tch’Aglox: Human-Jesica, wait, what is a “backflip”?

Jesica: Lemme show you 😃

Jesica does a backflip and falls into a shallow ravine. Tch’Aglox is a member of the DacMalalan species, which is known for its brittle bone structure, and not having previously been aware of the specifics of human bone structure, xe is quite alarmed.

Tch’Aglox: Human-Jesica!!! NOOO!!!

Jesica: I’m alright Ag, just twisted my ankle a bit. I’ll be back up in a second.

Jesica climbs out of the hole and, much to xes surprise, seems to be almost entirely fine, though Jesica does have a slight limp. Tch’Aglox gives thanks to the Great One that the humans are a friendly species.__________________________________________

I hope I got the pronoun thing right. I haven’t done that particular thing before. I also hope that anyone who reads this enjoys it. Have a good day 😄

I Got A Writing Request!

Write one were aliens and humans are part of a covenant and the aliens think humans may not be suited to be soldiers but a small group consisting of like 3 or 4 aliens and one human go on an infiltrating mission and they are surprised how the human is able to fight, climb, run, crawl, and dumb tactics like hiding under a cardboard box (which somehow works out for the human)

Tac 1 did not like the idea of bringing a human along on a mission like this. If it were up to her, the humans would leave the fighting to the professionals. While not much is known about their past, the humans’ soft exteriors and friendly personalities made it clear to her that they probably didn’t even know what a war Was. But, due to a new agreement within the interspecies council, it was required that humans be allowed to take part in military operations alongside their allies.

Despite her misgivings, the mission started off pretty well. The team entered the enemy compound unnoticed, and began to make its way to the command station to extract intel and kill a few officers, when a simple grunt turned a corner and spotted them!

Tac 1 thought for sure they were done for (after all, this was a rather high priority base they were infiltrating) when the grunt fell to the ground, gurgling and clutching its neck. After about thirty seconds, the grunt stopped moving, and Tac 1 noticed a knife protruding from its neck. Confused, she turned to look at her squad mates, who returned her gaze with looks of equal confusion. Then, the human (call sign Diplomat) spoke up.

Diplomat: “We need to hide the body. If they find it, they’ll raise the alarm, and we’ll never get out of this place in one piece.”

Tac 1: “But where the hell did that knife come from?”

Diplomat: “I threw it to Save our asses, which won’t matter if these dipshits find the body!”

It was then that Diplomat noticed a small shipping crate down one of the side paths. Having played a lot of MGS and Dishonored as a child, Diplomat knew just what to do.

Tac 1 was confused by Diplomat’s actions, but at this point was too stunned to question it. The team made their way to the command center without any further difficulties. With the officers slain and the data stolen, the operatives began the just as difficult return trip.

On the way out of the base, they were spotted again. This time, though, the enemy was to far away to kill silently, and so the alarm was sounded. The operatives booked it back to their ship, heading through a ruin of a city in an attempt to ditch their pursuers.

Diplomat realized that they weren’t going to make it and told the others to hide down a side alley. Then he ran with a speed that Tac 1 hadn’t known he possessed, jumped onto the side of a small building, and began to climb. Reaching the roof, Diplomat unfolded a compact sniper rifle, and waited.

As soon as the enemy was in range, Diplomat began picking them off one by one. By the time they reached the alley, they had lost a quarter of their number. As they passed the alley entrance, the infiltration team opened fire, killing a great deal more of the soldiers. Diplomat then leapt from the roof, landed on one of the remaining combatants, and stabbed two more with his wrist blades. With the last of the enemy killed by the infiltration team, they returned to their ship, and headed back to base for debriefing.
