Concern
A/N: Hi guys I’m so excited I’m uploading this. I’ve had the prompt for a while and I knew what I wanted to do with it but I couldn’t figure out how to put it in words. Sorry for how long it’s taken me to write this! I was hoping to upload two fics tonight but this took longer than anticipated. I will have at least one fic up tomorrow! Thanks for the support guys!

Words: exactly 1100
Song I’m Listening to: Sweet Dreams by BORNS
Prompt: “Do it, I dare you”
“Goddamnit Jim, he infuriates me! How the hell did you become friends with him?” you ask your brother, rolling your eyes. He chuckles.
“Mr. Spock is an… acquired taste,” he muses. “Look Y/N I felt the same way in the beginning. All I wanted to do was punch the dude in the friggin face. But then he saved my life.”
“But that was you Jim, who the hell says some revelation like that is gonna happen with me. I mean, I’d like to get along but holy hell if he doesn’t make it difficult. To be completely honest here, it hurts. The way he talks down? You would think he actually hates me,” you look down with a frown.
“Come on, sis. The last person I remember Spock actually hating was Khan, which was completely reasonable. For him to hate you, you would have to actually kill someone.”
Jim had been trying to convince you for a while now, but every encouraging word would disappear when Spock talked to you. Since you had arrived on the starship Enterprise to work alongside your brother, Commander Spock had been all but warm to you. Granted, Spock was completely normal, if not friendly with you in the beginning. And then it all started when Khan.
Of course everyone aboard the famous ship had already been stressed and under pressure when Admiral Marcus turned against the fleet to protect his own ass. You, along with Carol and your brother, and of course, Khan, faced Admiral Marcus head on trying to reason with him. In the process, Carol broke a leg, Admiral Marcus died, Kirk was severely injured, and you had been shot with a phaser set to stun, along with several hand dealt injuries by Khan. When you got back to base, you were thoroughly chewed out by the commander, as you had gone on the ship against his orders as your superior. And ever since that day, Spock made it completely obvious that he had no faith in you as a lieutenant.
You had always liked the commander, not only as an intellectual, but as a person. Sure, Spock had a reputation for being cold and brash, but he had his moments where he cared deeply about something and would show it to you. When Spock’s human side came out, that’s when you were drawn in. There was something utterly captivating about him.
“I don’t know Jim,” you sighed walking with him down the corridor. “Ever since Khan, I have obviously struck a chord in him. A rude and mean one.”
“Look Y/N,” Jim said, pausing in the corridor to face you. “I know Spock’s been hard on you lately, so maybe you should talk to him?” You gave him a pointed look. He laughed. “I know that sounds insane but it is Vulcan nature to tell the truth. So maybe you’ll finally get some answers?”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” you agreed, continuing on down the corridor.
You thought about it for a while, finally convincing yourself that this was a good idea. If you could deal with all the degrading comments he had said to you since Khan, you could deal with whatever he would say. You left your quarters determined to get this over with and you found him leaving the medical bay after a routine check-up. Taking in a breath of anticipation, you approached him.
“Commander Spock, could I speak with you a moment?” you called out, gaining his attention. He looked you over, concerned as to why you could possibly be approaching him. Finally, he sighed.
“I suppose, Lieutenant Kirk,” he said without emotion. “What does this concern?”
“Spock,” he raised an eyebrow, but allowed you to continue. “I would like to address the way I have been treated.”
His goddamn pointed eyebrows furrowed in confusion. God, why was that attractive.
“I’m not quite sure what you mean Y/N. Has someone aboard the ship been harassing you?” he questioned, jaw clenching a little bit. Was it in anger?
“Spock, ever since Khan,” his jaw clenched again. “You have not treated me as before. Before, though I am of lower ranking, I considered us equals. Now, you make degrading comments and talk down to me.” His Vulcan ears turned pink at the tips. In embarrassment?
“Y/N, I, in no way, meant to offend you with my comments,” you sighed in relief. So he didn’t hate you. “I just want you to learn from all of the mistakes you’ve made, so I point them out.”
“Excuse me?” you asked incredulously. He didn’t hate you, he just found you inferior.
“When you boarded Admiral Marcus’ ship and became injured, I felt a deep anger. An anger I haven’t experienced since my home planet was destroyed,” he said, looking down at the ground. His human side was starting to show. “Granted, I did not have an outlet to throw all the anger to, so it fell to you. I think a part of me was scared for your well-being, and that is an emotion I truly am not familiar with. I think you humans call it “caring.” Since then, I’ve made comments to you because I want you to do well and I want you to succeed. Most importantly, I want you to survive.”
You took a step closer to him, completely shocked by the actions and emotions this half-man has shown you today. This usually closed off, cold being has given you warmth and has told you that he cares about you. He cares about you. He’s concerned about you.
“Spock,” you said, forcing him to look up. His eyes were almost pleading, begging you to accept this display he’s given you. You simply hug him. “Thank you.”
Spock didn’t show affection ever, much less hug a person. You felt like a comfortableness that enveloped him in a way he hadn’t experienced before. So he hugged you back. You broke away but was surprisingly pulled into a kiss. After the shock wore off, you kissed him back with just as much force.
You pulled away, staring at him and the way his whole face turned a certain shade of pink. You giggled.
“And just a few minutes ago, I thought I was going to slap you.” you laughed. His mouth quirked up into that rare smirk he has.
“I believe the human response would be “do it, I dare you.” Besides, I figured you might want me to do that again.” you giggled again, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“Do it.” you smiled. “I dare you.”
