Write Now- Writing Update 1
Hey. I thought it would be fun to keep a journal of my daily writing progress. So here goes.
I’m 24 years old, and I’ve been telling stories since before I could read or write. When I did learn how to read and write, imagine my delight (That wasn’t meant to rhyme, but it did. Sorry). I started writing my stories down when I was five or six, a time when I thought punctuation was just a myth made up to frighten naughty children. I struggled to come to terms with the existence of punctuation for far longer than I’d like to admit. Anyway, the point is, I’ve been writing my whole life, but it was only in the last couple years that I decided to buckle down and follow through on something that would allow me to pursue traditional publication.
My book is a YA high fantasy. The concept, characters, and world of this book have been living in my mind for about four years now. I started writing the book seriously last year, and just recently reached 70,000 words on my first draft! Very excited about that.
My goal is to complete my rough draft by the end of September, revise in October, and begin querying agents in November.
Today I wrote 2,000 words. This is quite good for me on a day when I have to go to work at a “real” job. I’m getting to the point in the plot where I can’t quite believe I’m writing scenes that have been in my head for years. It’s wonderful, but also a lot of pressure. If you’ve had the ideal image of something in your mind for that long, once you birth it onto the page it probably won’t live up to your ideal. But you have to trust that it will get there eventually with blood, sweat, and revision.
I have to work again tomorrow, but not until the afternoon, so I’m going to aim for 3,000 words. Wish me luck!
I also just started a writing vlog on YouTube to keep myself accountable and to connect with other writers! Check it out, if you’d like.
