Emmett wasn't much for sappy stuff, but during a recent thrift store haul he'd found a pretty, delicate antique vase. It had all but screamed Esme's name at him: something she'd love to have around the house.
Now the vase is full of wildflowers, arranged with care. There's a card tucked in amongst the petals, and written on the envelope is 'happy birthday mom!’

Esme never expects anything for her birthday. They stopped being relevant about forty years ago, but the vase is a lovely surprise and as Esme gets closer, she spots the card with familiar handwriting.
It's always bittersweet getting things from her adopted kids when she missed out on such things from her own son, but she's so happy to have this family— to call Emmett her son in their own sort of way.
The vase is absolutely wonderful, but the true star of the show are the flowers. Esme is a sucker for flowers and she's surprised that Emmett of everyone in her coven has taken note of her favourite wildflowers.
To be noticed that way means more than the vase itself, but again, the fact he saw it and thought of her was just another reason to be grateful.
It was delicately placed as the centrepiece on their dining table, and Emmett was greeted with an all her might Esme hug when he came through the front door.
