I'm reading the latest John Dies at the End books and David Wong the drugs you definitely should be on is called estradiol
a little more than 2/3 done with wthdijr and can i just say this book makes it so. clear. how much johndaveamy love each other?? like it’s in the subtleties but you can just tell they love each other so much. from dave hugging john when he thought he died, to the three of them saying they’ll find each other no matter what when tasker tries to split them up, hell just dave saying “there’s plainly a woman living here […] unless they’re yours, which again, the only thing that would bug me is that you didn’t feel like you could tell me.”
this book, amongst everything, is so full of love
"I cautiously approached and poked the standing John with a finger, to see if he seemed solid. He did. To be sure, I wrapped my arms around his torso and squeezed, to detect any anomalous reaction. I found none." [What The Hell Did I Just Read, pg 85]
would you still love me if i was a worm maggot
Finished Book 3 and 4 a while ago but never got to writing a review. I also don't think I've written an explicit review on any of the books, so that's coming up along the day now. Buckle up!
First off, my personal raiting of all 4 books will be following:
1. John Dies At The End (the OG just has my heart in a chokehold)
2. If this book exists, you're in the wrong Universe (hate how long the title is tho)
3. This book is full of Spiders
4. What the hell did I just read?
Would love to know your personal ratings! Reviews and reasoning for these ratings coming soon!
been bedridden and bored as hell after surgery so I drew the jdate gang. is this fandom still alive??
David Wong is a Dick (Part One)
Alright, I wanna fuckin' talk about Dave/Amy (and John/Dave/Amy by proxy). I've read up to ITBEYITWU. This is gonna be messy but I don't care.
So first I want to establish something I feel is easy to forget when reading John Dies at the End: Dave is not a reliable narrator, nor an innocent person.
We see this most obviously in Lance Falconer, who is only revealed to be a dramatization of an actual guy later on. That one's just a joke. We also see him dodge things that happened to him on childhood. He dodges questions about Billy until he finally tells Amy everything. Then he pretends (briefly) he feels regret, only to confess otherwise. Jim states he saw Dave laughing as if things were normal less than a day after Billy died. We also know that Dave is the one who gave Amy the nickname Sea Cucumber. Dave is, factually, kind of a dick. Think about when Shadow People have possessed him with Krissy Lovelace - his thoughts, his reactions. Everything.
Dave is not a good dude, and he's writing in first person. While he self deprecates, sure, we know he isn't fully honest with his audience. He has control of the narrative.
We as readers inherently want to empathize with and root for Dave, and it's easy to let the less stand-out things slide because of it. Things like Shelly.
