You found me When no one else was lookin' How did you know just where I would be? Yeah, you broke through All of my confusion The ups and the downs And you still didn't leave I guess that you saw what nobody could see You found me You found me
Lacey had gotten back from her 'date' with Garrett, it wasn't bad. But it was simply... unsatisfactory and it didn't help that she spent the entire date thinking about how the next night would go. Or hoping Carlyle was enjoying himself. But not more so than he would on their date...she wanted him to have a nice time... not decide there were better out there. Of course, something in her heart told her that wouldn't happen. Something was telling her neither of them would find better, and especially not on these blind dates.
She smiled faintly to herself at the thought of that, she liked that idea. That perhaps, the one thing she'd always trusted, always helped fall into place... perhaps it had plans for her too. And not just a guardian. But enjoying life, and falling in love. Doing all the things she'd seen mortals do but could never quite bring herself to try. The Fates were too busy. They were always too busy. She didn't have time for things like wooing and love before now.
She sat down at her desk that was in the corner of her room. Brushing aside some papers she'd brought home to read over and a name at the top of one couldn't help but make her smile. It was for a case she'd finished now, but hadn't yet put away. Attorney: Carlyle Jones. Oh the number of times she'd seen that on a page... it had never made her smile, not in the manner she was now. She'd been pleased to work with Carlyle of course, he was one of the best lawyers in town and easily her favorite to work with because he got the job done.
But it never gave her butterflies. Or make her pause just to think back to watching him play the piano. Or the way he'd been looking at her when she left the other night. Or how she missed his hand in hers. It never left her wondering how he felt about her, she'd never cared. She'd enjoyed speaking with him, but how he felt about her personally had never mattered. She'd known she was good at her job and she was convinced he, at least valued her for that.
Now she hoped her feelings weren't misplaced, and though she could see easily, the way he treated her, and the fact that he asked her on a date. It was some misplaced nerves that made her worry.
She'd never felt vulnerable before.
She'd never let anyone close, not anyone aside from her sisters. Who would never hurt her.
She'd never thought about love.
Was it love? She frozen where she was in stacking the papers and set them back on the desk.
Was it? She let sighed as her heart thudded against her chest. Could it be? They'd only been... not following routine for a day... but she'd known him so much longer. She knew the things that everyone found out in the process of falling in love. The ups and the downs, the good and the bad. Sure they hadn't been as close as they'd been recently. But Lacey didn't need to be.
She was the fate of the past, she saw everything that had been. Each moment that had come to pass.
And she was in love with Carlyle Jones.
