Believing through the Storm (#wtsdevo Belief)
"Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way." - James 1:2-4
Not all people can tolerate the storms of life the same as the next person. When the disciples were on the boat with Jesus on that stormy day, as much as they believed in God, they couldn't tolerate the storm as much as Jesus did. Jesus was so tolerant that it probably felt like home to Him considering that He was sound asleep until He was woken up by His disciples.
Makes me wonder how some can be so tolerant through crazy challenges whilst some others can't. How can you and I remain unshaken as Jesus was on that day?
It call comes do to who and what we believe in.
We believe someone or something when we are absolutely convinced of their integrity and what they are made up of. When we are doubtful of someone, we obviously wouldn't go as far as to trust them with the most important and intimate things and moments of our life. This being said, it can directly be translated to how we view God in our lives as. We can either see Him as this shady person trying to rip us off, or a cranky dude who hates us having a laugh. Or we can see Him as this incredibly awesome God - who loves and accepts us as we are. Depending on how we see Him as, our level of belief in Him also varies. As always, on that day - Jesus was incredibly faithful and confident in His Father. He knew that He had nothing to worry about because in God, all things are in control. Naturally because of His attitude, He never slunk off when things just came crashing down around Him. He relented and stood His ground. All because of Who He believed in.
This is no different when it comes down to our own lives. Who are we anchored to and do we believe in God enough to trust that He has it all in control, no matter how insane life gets? We can choose to fear and worry till our hair goes grey. Be assured that this wouldn't take you too far. On the other hand, we can grow and develop ourselves when we choose to believe in the One that saved us and when we take every moment to learn and grow. Challenges are unavoidable. Yet what sets us apart is how we actually handle them as they come.
Let us consider our trials to be an amazing gift from God. We may lose some along the way, but we gain a lot more as we move on forward. It serves us well to believe through the storm.
