“If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.” 2 Corinthians 11:30
We as a people and as Christians very rarely show our weaknesses. We are slow to say ‘oh, I have a problem with lying’ or ‘sometimes, my sin is too much for me to handle’. Rather, we will highlight our accomplishments.
We are told by our culture that who we are as a person relies solely on our accolades. That if we do not promote ourselves, exhibit a level of likability, or ‘put our best foot forward’, we will not succeed. God however, has a different idea.
Our purpose, our single goal, is and should be to bring Glory to God. Simply put, we cannot do that if our own egos are in the way. If we choose to lift up our high points and not our low points, we paint an incorrect, dishonest picture of ourselves, and of God.
Our God didn’t come to earth as Jesus to save us from our good days. He came to rescue us and forgive us from our shortcomings. In order to truly glorify God for His work in us, we must boast in our weakness. We must tell the world of how we cannot do anything well without God.
Only then can we truly be humble servants.
