hey i’m thinking about a wtnv/tpp/tma crossover where there’s alternate universe doors like nightmare before xmas style, like. if you go far enough into artifact storage, there are these doors. big gilded double doors, like the entrance to the lobby of an impossibly massive hotel. and then, just a few feet away, a metal door, normal but for the fact that it’s a bright, almost glowing purple color and the sign above it that reads on air. it doesn’t light up on any kind of regular schedule that anyone can discern, just. it’s on sometimes, and other times it’s off.
the connection goes both ways, but the doors are in different places in the different universes. there’s a room in the penumbra with a purple door, but no on air sign, because this door opens up right beside the entrance to the dog park. there’s another room that opens in the tunnels below the institute. there are others, too, multiple entrances in multiple locations, but those two are the easiest to locate - they’re each the only entrance to their respective universes from the penumbra that actually has a room number (M18 and NV74) rather than an incomprehensible symbol.
it’s easy to find the doors in night vale that lead to those other impossible places, but a bit tricky to actually get to them. you need to ingratiate yourself with cynthia cabrera, in the desert creek housing development, because those doors are in the basement of her house that doesn’t exist. this is why no scientists have yet been able to explore those particular other universes - cynthia is apprehensive about letting them in her home, given all the nonsense they’ve pulled, and the fact that they keep telling her the house doesn’t actually exist.
(there are other doors in the town that could get any night vale citizens into the penumbra or the magnus institute, but nobody can get to them. this is because one set of doors is in the library, fiercely guarded by vicious librarians, while the other pair of doors is located inside the dog park, somehow.)
obviously i’m thinking very deeply about jon/martin and cecil/carlos and juno/nureyev like... i’m galaxy braining so hard i’ve got sixteen venn diagrams in my mind at the moment
