Ahhhh back to my old Wuko roots! Though I’ve never done a flowershop au before, so this was fun!
“Is it weird?” Korra asked, “Cause like, I can ask Bolin, if it’s weird…”
“Korra, would you just tell me which ones you want?” Mako said on the counter, “It’s only weird ‘cause you’re making it weird.”
Korra sighed in relief looking over the array of flowers. “Do you think she’d want roses or is that too stereotypical?” she asked.
Mako rolled his eyes and sighed, going through his stock. “The benefit of having dated you both is that I know exactly what you both like.” He said, quickly arranging a bouquet of red roses, gold flowers and just a few hints of blue to go along with the color of Korra’s eyes.
Korra brightened looking at it, “It’s perfect!”
Mako smiled, privately pleased with himself, “Great, that’ll be $60.”
Korra nearly dropped the bouquet. “Sixty—“ she said, “Don’t I get a discount or something?”
“Oh, and how much do YOU have to pay in rent?” Mako asked her, arms crossed.
Korra grumbled, pulling out her wallet. He was pretty sure she heard some curses under her breath that would make her mentors faint.
Bolin came out of the back with an armful of plants he’d been potting. “That Korra?” He asked, nodding at her retreating back.
Mako nodded, “Its her first official date with Asami tonight.” He said.
Bolin grinned at the thought, but then hesitated, “And she came to YOU for the flowers?” he said, “Isn’t that…weird?”
Mako sighed to himself, angrily starting to arrange a display. “I don’t know…” he said, “Yes? Kinda? But I don’t want THEM to think it’s weird,” He said, “I just…I’m happy for them, I really am, I—I dunno.”
“You…”Bolin started, “Are you, like, still in love with Korra?”
“No!” Mako protested.
Bolin put his hands up in surrender. “Asami…?”
“No, no, it’s nothing like that,” He said, “I just…I really am glad to be just friends with them, we’re in a good place, but…I kinda…I want what they have.”
Bolin nodded, “You’ll find someone out there,” he said, “If you keep looking! Should be easy in this ol’ shop.”
Mako grumbled, “Maybe.” He said, “It’s just…Asami is amazing, smart, drop dead gorgeous, kind, funny. And Korra? Also gorgeous and passionate and stronger than me, probably. So, I dunno…I just start thinking…”
“What?” Bolin asked, curious.
Mako chewed his lower lip. “What if…I mean, I couldn’t make a relationship work with two of the most amazing women on the PLANET. If I couldn’t do that, what if I’m not meant to be in a relationship.”
Bolin smacked him upside the head, “Wha—Bolin!”
“Stop talking nonsense,” His little brother said, “It’s not about how great they are or what kind of person you are. Sometimes two great people just aren’t suited for each other, and that’s exactly what happened with both of them. But, someday, you’ll find someone you CLICK with, and it works out!”
Mako sighs, “I guess.”
Bolin checked his watch. “Okay, this is going to sound super tone deaf given the nature of this whole conversation, but I actually have a date planned tonight with Opal, so…..”
“Hey, you never know, maybe working tonight will lead you to your one true love!” Mako rolled his eyes and pushed his brother out of the store.
The store was dead silent for a solid hour after Bolin left. Mako rearranged the displays over and over, cleaned everything, made sure it was all taken care of and looking nice, and was JUST starting to think it was a good time to close early, when a man burst through the doors.
“Oh thank GOD! You’re still open! He said in a rush.
Mako was familiar with that expression. “A dozen red roses for an anniversary?” He asked, already reaching over.
“What?” the man, an oddly pretty man now that Mako got a look at him, with a ridiculous amount of product in his hair, “Oh, no, nothing like that. I’m hosting a dinner party tonight and the florist BAILED on me at the last minute!”
Mako’s eyebrows shot up. “I…I don’t know, a last minute order like that—“
“Please?!” The man said, clasping his hands together and getting way further into Mako’s personal space than Mako was typically comfortable with, “Please, please, I’ll even help get everything together, and I’ll pay TRIPLE the normal price!”
That got Mako’s eyes to really go wide. Triple? “Flower’s are more expensive than you think, sir, are you sure—“
“Believe me, I’m sure!” he said, “I’ll pay whatever you want just, please save me!”
Mako sighed. “What do you need?” he asked.
The good thing about this particular guest, whose name he learned was ‘Wu’ was that he knew exactly what he wanted. It was frustrating when customers were just vague about things. The problem was he knew EXACTLY what he wanted and wouldn’t budge on anything when Mako made any suggestions. “I’m telling you, those flowers won’t look good there,” he said, “They’re too small! They’ll get overtaken by the leaves!”
“The leaves are the important POINT!” Wu argued, and Mako swallowed further complaints. Whoever said ‘the customer was always right’ can bite his entire ass.
Wu also wasn’t willing to get his hands dirty with getting the flowers. He called in some workers of his, that Mako assumed were working the party, to come move the flowers. “Great,” he said, “Now just load up in the back of the truck and we’ll be on our way.” Wu said with a great deal of finality given that Mako was still confused.
“Wait, what?” he asked, “I’m not going with you.”
“Of course you are!” Wu said, “You think these people understand anything about arranging the flowers? You’re almost to closing time anyway, chop chop, lock up, and let’s get moving.”
Wu had to be the singular most frustrating person Mako had ever met. And he’d met more than his fair share of frustrating people! But he was also a hard person to argue with, so Mako found himself locking up his shop and settling into the back of the truck.
“Whoa…” was all he said when he stepped out. He’d been in some austentatious places before, mostly back when he was dating Asami, but this…this was practically gaudy, and just…huge!
“Come along!” Wu said, “Now, I have other matters to attend to, but these people are at your service, they’ll do everything you ask,” he said, “Refreshments are sitting over there if you need them, thank god the caterer didn’t bail, and bathroom’s down the hall on your left. Farewell!”
With that, Wu was off, leaving an array of servants in his wake, all looking to Mako for instructions. “Uh,” he said, “I…I guess we’ll start with the table centerpieces,” he said.
Somehow, they got it all set up before the first guest stepped in the hall for the evening. Mako sighed, packing up his tools, and the servants all disappearing into the kitchen.
Wu came up to him, breathing in relief, “Thank you so much, Mako, you’re a LIFE savor!” He said, “Please, feel free to stay for the party.”
“Uh,” Mako said, looking around. “I think I just better go.
“Big plans?” Wu asked.
Mako hesitated. “Well…” no, he didn’t. And his closest friends were all on dates. The best company he hoped for tonight was Pabu, “I just…I have nothing to wear.”
Wu clapped, and another servant stepped up. “Garson, go and see if we have any spare suits that will fit Mr. Mako. Feel free to dip into my personal collection, if you can find anything to fit those broad shoulders.” The servant nodded, and headed out. “And Mako?” Wu asked, “Make sure to save a dance for me,” he said with a wink.”
Mako smirked and walked to follow the servant. Just as he did, he overheard a pair of guests approaching Wu. “Simply a LOVELY arrangement, your highness.”
A Wuko NSFW fic, written by a wonderful anon! In which, well, Mako really should have knocked, but is overall probably glad he didn’t.
Mako slumped down in his seat as the evening grew later. The prince had already gone to bed, and Mako should’ve done the same several hours ago… but he was still antsy after the long ride to the hotel, and honestly, Mako always took a couple days to really feel settled whenever they moved locations. Even now that they were all set up in their most recent luxury suite, he still didn’t know what to do with himself. He was already awake, so he figured he might as well do his job.
Thus, he had parked himself near the door to Wu’s bedroom. There was an armchair already positioned right there, and he thought to himself that at the very least, settling somewhere comfortable would give him the best possible chance of catching some sleep before morning.
Sure enough, his eyelids were beginning to grow heavy, his breathing was becoming deeper and more even… and he had just about dozed off when he heard strange noises coming from inside the room. His eyes popped open and he rubbed a hand over his face, trying to become alert again.
Mako narrowed his eyes and got up so he could move closer to the door. Whatever he was hearing, it was faint… he couldn’t tell what it was. He decided to try gently knocking first. He didn’t want to wake Wu if this was something stupid. When that elicited no response, he tried loudly whispering. “Wu! Hey, what’s going on in there?”
Nothing. Mako’s rational side was telling him that this was most likely something completely innocuous and he was getting riled up for no reason, but his paranoid side knew that he wasn’t going to sleep tonight if he couldn’t figure out what he was hearing.
He stood there deliberating for probably longer than he would’ve if he weren’t so groggy… then decided to sit back down. He told himself he’d give it a minute or two before doing anything. Maybe the noise would just stop and everything would be fine. No such luck though, because a moment later, there came the distinct sound of Wu crying out in obvious distress.
So, of course, Mako jumped up from his chair in a panic. He burst in the door shouting “Wu! What’s wrong—?” but the words died in his throat as he gradually realized what was going on.
Wu was sprawled out on the bed. He had his nightshirt hiked up over his chest, and his baggy pajama pants shoved down around his hips, so he was fully exposed. He was panting lightly, hair mussed up, face flushed… even more so when Mako ran into the room.
The prince had yelped when the door flew open, and was now sitting with his knees tucked up by his chin, scrambling to get hold of the sheets so he could properly cover himself. Mako had already seen more than enough though. “H-hey, Mako! Uh!” Wu stammered with a high, nervous giggle.
Mako turned about five shades of red in the space of five seconds, shouted an apology, and practically bolted from the room. Without thinking, he went and hid in the bedroom next to Wu’s. It was supposed to be his, but he always ended up falling asleep on the couch every night, no matter where they stayed. He sat down on the edge of the bed and just stared blankly for a while.
Eventually, there was a tentative knock on his door. Mako went and opened it to find Wu standing there looking sheepish, but mercifully clothed. “Um… so. Uh. Hey sorry about that. Just now I mean… I…” Wu trailed off as he quickly ran out of things to say.
Mako coughed awkwardly. “No uh, it’s fine. I mean I should be the one apologizing. Should’ve knocked. Anyway… yeah.” Mako was beet red again, and Wu couldn’t help but laugh at the situation a little. This was the most uncomfortable he’d ever seen Mako get, and considering how awkward he could be sometimes, that was saying something.
Mako scowled. “What are you laughing at?” he asked. He felt like he was being made fun of. ‘Shouldn’t Wu be the embarrassed one here?’ he wondered to himself. “Oh come on, it’s a little funny.” Wu said with a grin.
“Just go back to bed already.” Mako grumbled as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Ordering me to bed now are you? Goodness, how forward!” Wu exclaimed mockingly, and Mako snapped his head up looking very honestly scandalized. “God, shut up!” Mako said as he grabbed a pillow from the bed and used it to shoo the prince out of his room. Wu just giggled and shouted “Alright! Alright! I’m going!”
As Wu headed back to his own bedroom, he was turning the evening’s events over in his mind. Lately, teasing Mako had been one of his only reprieves from his boring daily schedule full of official political duties. This little mishap was like throwing gas on the fire. There was no way Wu would let this go.
The next day started out fairly normal… sort of. Mako knew right away that Wu was messing with him. It was hard not to pick up on it when Wu spent an extended amount of time wandering through their kitchenette in nothing but a towel after his shower. Mako just focused really hard on his newspaper and didn’t say anything.
Throughout the rest of the morning Wu’s attempts to throw Mako off kilter only escalated. It started with Wu being more clingy than usual, which barely even registered with Mako. Then in the afternoon, he had progressed to making some less than subtle jabs during an important meeting… which Mako did his level best to ignore. By the time evening rolled around, Wu was clearly grasping at straws. Mako had managed to maintain his unflappable professional demeanor the whole day, and Wu was more than a little annoyed.
If Mako was being totally honest, he thought it was kind of funny to watch Wu scramble around trying to fluster him… especially as Wu got more and more frustrated himself. Even so, things seemed to be back to normal at dinner. They were both too worn out to keep up their friendly mutual harassment, so Wu and Mako actually had a very nice meal together. Afterwards was a whole other story though.
Back in the suite, Mako flopped down on the couch with a book while Wu went to get ready for bed. Mako should’ve known something was up when Wu said that he was turning in so early. He wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but his reading was interrupted when he heard soft, familiar sounds coming from Wu’s bedroom. ‘Oh no.’ Mako thought to himself.
He tried to tune it out. Just keep reading, pretend nothing’s going on… but damn, Wu was being louder this time, and Mako found himself reading the same sentence over and over again. Eventually he set the book down on the coffee table and covered his face with his hands for a long moment.
Mako was almost positive that Wu was doing this as a joke, but at the same time he wasn’t 100% sure. He didn’t want a repeat of the previous night’s fiasco, so there was nothing he could do about it. Even worse was the fact that he still had the image in his head of Wu from last night, all vulnerable, and disheveled… spread out on the bed with so much skin showing…
Wu’s moaning was breathing new life into Mako’s memory, and somewhat abruptly, Mako realized that he had unintentionally gotten… worked up… while thinking about all of this. Suddenly lying on the couch in the middle of his and Wu’s shared suite didn’t seem like such a good idea. Mortified, he got up and hastily ducked into the bathroom to try to calm down.
Meanwhile, Wu had been sitting just on the other side of the door, purposefully making lewd noises and giggling to himself at the thought of grumpy ol’ Mako trying to stoically continue his book. He actually jumped when he heard Mako move, and for a second he thought Mako was going to come in and tell him to knock it off. Wu was actually rather surprised when he didn’t.
He waited a minute, then tentatively opened the door a crack. Mako was nowhere to be seen. He stepped out into the room and looked around. Had he really chased Mako off? Wu was struck with a tiny pang of guilt. If he’d really annoyed Mako out of their suite, he’d have some apologizing to do later… but that was when he heard it.
A series of small, slightly shaky sighs from behind the bathroom door. Wu had a split second’s worth of worry that Mako might’ve been sick or something, but then the realization hit him. “Oh my god I did not…” the prince whispered to himself as he walked over towards the bathroom. With a light tap on the door he called out, “Hey Mako, are you in there?”
“UH! Y-yeah one moment!” came Mako’s awkward reply. Wu grinned to himself. If his assumption was correct, he would never let Mako live this down. “How much longer do you think you’ll be?” Wu asked. “I… I… was thinking of taking a shower!” Mako said. Wu nearly burst out laughing right there, but he steeled himself. “Could I get in there first?” he asked. “I really have to use the bathroom! It won’t take more than a minute, then the shower’s all yours.”
On the other side of the door Mako froze. He was almost good to go, but he still couldn’t walk out there like this. “One moment,” he said distractedly. There had to be a way out of this. “Come on Mako, hurry up.” Wu complained, but that time Mako caught the note of amusement in his voice. With an exasperated sigh, he realized that the jig was up. More likely than not, Wu knew exactly what was going on here. Even if he didn’t, he was just goofing around again.
So Mako made a decision. He was just going to rush past and hope that Wu wouldn’t notice anything. With that in mind, Mako flung the door open and tried to slip out quickly. What he hadn’t counted on was the fact that Wu was standing smack in the middle of the doorway. Mako was actually surprised that someone as scrawny as Wu could block that much space.
One way or another, the result of this was that Mako had barreled straight into Wu and, with a shout of surprise, both of them ended up on the floor. “Wu, what the hell?!” Mako grumbled as he pushed himself up. “I could ask you the same question! What’s the rush?” Wu whined from beneath him. Before Mako could move away, Wu got the chance to look him up and down. He raised his eyebrows a bit. “Jeez, were you thinking of taking a hot shower or a cold one?” Wu asked with an impish grin.
“Shut up, just go use the bathroom already.” Mako snapped as he scrunched up and turned away from Wu. “Or do you even need to? Was that all just an excuse so you could humiliate me again?” Mako looked so embarrassed at this point that Wu actually felt really bad about this whole situation and immediately started backtracking.
“Aw jeez, Mako… I’m sorry! I wasn’t trying to humiliate you, I was just teasing!” Wu said, scooting closer. He placed a tentative hand on Mako’s arm, but Mako wouldn’t look at him. “I know, I probably went too far this time,” Wu continued, “but you just seem so uptight these days, and it’s so hard to get you to joke around and, y’know… relax a little!”
“This was supposed to get me to relax? Really??” Mako scoffed incredulously. “I dunno,” Wu mumbled, “I was running out of ideas. I got carried away… everything’s been so boring and stressful lately and…” Wu trailed off at the end. Mako was just sitting there with his arms around his knees, scowling at his feet. Wu’s expression softened a bit. “I am sorry though.” he finished, then leaned over and gave Mako a quick peck on the cheek before getting up.
Mako sat there stunned just long enough for Wu to get to his feet, but he caught hold of the prince’s pant leg before he could walk away. “Wait, Wu, what was…?” Mako questioned tentatively. He let his quizzical expression ask the rest of the question for him as he slowly got to his feet. Wu turned to face him.
“What… was it less than you were hoping for?” Wu asked. On the surface he almost seemed like he was teasing again, but it was so gentle this time. Almost like he genuinely wanted to know the answer. “I, uh…” Mako stuttered, caught off guard by Wu’s change in attitude. Wu walked quietly forward until he was close enough to absentmindedly tug on the edge of Mako’s sleeve. Mako found himself drawn towards Wu by the subtle gesture.
Wu furrowed his brow slightly, as though he were asking if this was okay. They stayed that way for a moment as Mako tried to catch up, but in the next moment Wu’s lips were pressed softly against his, and he still wasn’t sure how it happened. All he really knew was that he didn’t want it to stop.
Mako wrapped his arms around Wu, pulling him in closer, and Wu pressed himself into Mako until Mako found himself pinned up against the wall. The kiss was slow, and deep, and Mako simply let himself get caught up in the sensation of it with no resistance. Wu licked Mako’s lower lip and Mako instantly met Wu’s tongue with his own.
Mako’s hands were wandering all over, and he gasped against Wu’s mouth as Wu began grinding up against his hip. After a minute or two, Wu abruptly pulled away and Mako found himself trying to follow, slightly dazed and unable to take his eyes off of Wu. “There, see?” Wu said, “Now I’m ‘embarrassing myself’ just as much as you.”
The expression on Wu’s face said that he wasn’t embarrassed at all. Mako was way past the point of caring. He immediately stepped forward and kissed Wu again… and again, and again. Lips, face, neck, ears… everything was fair game this time, and Wu laughed breathlessly at how overzealous Mako suddenly was. It was when Mako was unbuttoning the front of his shirt to get at more skin that Wu quietly suggested, “Bed?”
He didn’t have to ask twice. Mako picked him up and walked them both back into Wu’s bedroom where he tipped Wu backwards onto the bed and moved to get on top of him. “Hang on…” Wu said. He had just gotten an idea that he thought Mako might enjoy. “What?” Mako asked. He was a bit short of breath, and clearly eager to continue.
“Just sit back for a second.” Wu instructed. Mako wasn’t sure what the point of this was, but he did what he was told. Wu made quick work of removing his shirt, then slowly pushed his pants down. Mako was slightly surprised to learn that Wu hadn’t been wearing underwear, but he certainly wasn’t complaining.
Wu reached down to stroke himself a couple times and god, Mako wanted to touch him so bad. Watching the way Wu’s fingers moved, and wondering what that would feel like on his own body… the anticipation was killing him. Wu locked eyes with Mako as he rolled his hips up into his hand, and that was when Mako realized that this was the point. Wu was putting on a show for him.
The thought made his legs feel weak as he crawled further onto the bed, closing the space between him and Wu with a firm kiss. Wu was making small breathy noises against Mako’s mouth as he continued to touch himself. The same noises that had been driving Mako crazy earlier… and they sounded so much better up close.
Mako broke out of the kiss so he could look between them and continue to watch what Wu was doing. The sight alone made Mako stifle a moan against the side of Wu’s neck. “When’s it my turn?” Mako asked softly. “Whenever you like.” Wu replied. Mako shifted onto his knees so he could run both of his hands over Wu’s body, trying to savor the moment and bursting with anticipation at the same time.
Wu took the opportunity to start unbuttoning Mako’s shirt, and Mako realized rather suddenly how weird it must look for him to still be fully clothed at this point. He scooted over to sit on the edge of the bed, and started undressing as fast as he could while Wu looked on with avid appreciation. Wu had been admiring Mako from afar for long enough though. He sat up and began placing kisses all over the back of Mako’s neck and shoulders, watching while Mako worked to get his pants off.
Before Mako could even think of going for his underwear, Wu was already sliding his hands under the elastic to grab at Mako’s ass. Mako groaned and tipped his head back onto Wu’s shoulder as Wu’s hands began to wander over his hips, then down even further to where he wanted it most. Wu was mouthing at Mako’s neck and probably leaving lots of noticeable bruises, but Mako didn’t care… as long as Wu continued touching him.
Wu wrapped one of his skinny arms around Mako’s middle, pressing their bodies together and holding him there as he continued his ministrations. Mako was panting heavily as he began thrusting up into Wu’s hand. Honestly they could’ve just continued like that and Mako would’ve been totally satisfied… but Wu had other ideas.
He knew he was going out on a limb, but Wu took a chance and brought his hand lower still, teasing lightly at Mako’s entrance. Mako let out a low shaky sigh that only barely conveyed surprise through his arousal. He turned to look at Wu through heavy lidded eyes, and for a moment Wu thought Mako might not want to do this, but then Mako quietly asked, “Do you… y’know… have anything…?” Wu got what he meant and nodded emphatically.
Mako removed his boxers the rest of the way as he watched Wu hurriedly fumble through the drawer in the bedside table. He briefly questioned the wisdom of this course of action, but then Wu was back with a small bottle of complimentary hotel hand lotion.
“This okay?” he asked anxiously. He looked about as nervous as Mako had ever seen him, and in that moment whatever doubts Mako might’ve had were gone. Mako nodded, gazing up at him as he put a hand on Wu’s waist and guided the prince closer to where he was still seated on the bed.
Their mouths met, and for a moment they lost themselves all over again in the feeling of finally having each other like this. If they were both being totally honest, this had been a long time coming. Too long. Mako took the lotion from Wu, got some in his hands, and began using it to slick him up. Wu nuzzled into Mako’s shoulder. He moaned loudly as he leaned into Mako’s touch, and for a moment he almost forgot what he was doing, simply enjoying the way Mako’s hand felt.
A bit too soon for Wu’s liking, Mako slid back and Wu crawled up onto the bed after him. Mako settled himself against the pillows as Wu took the bottle back and began warming a generous amount in his hands before reaching down between Mako’s legs again. Wu was very slow and careful about opening him up… almost too much so. Mako could tell the anticipation was getting to Wu as well, but his patience really payed off when Wu began moving his fingers around.
All of a sudden Mako was arching his back and biting his lower lip. He let out a loud groan and pushed back against Wu’s hand. Wu took his time, watching Mako come more and more undone. He was getting unabashedly louder by the moment, but it was clear that he needed more. “Wu… come on…” Mako pleaded, “stop teasing…!” Hearing Mako beg was more than Wu could stand.
Wu pulled his fingers out and hastily aligned himself with Mako. Crouching low over him, Wu pressed his forehead against Mako’s shoulder, gasping as he pushed in slowly. Mako let out a choked noise, cut off by his arm pressed against his mouth. Wu took Mako’s hand gently in his own. “Please… wanna hear you…” Wu whimpered. Mako obliged, practically shouting as Wu pressed himself all the way in.
At that point Wu stopped for a moment, trying to regain a small bit of composure so this wouldn’t end too quickly. He could feel a pleasant wash of arousal fluttering through the pit of his stomach and up his spine… he was aching to move, but part of him just wanted time to freeze right there.
Mako was getting impatient though, grasping at Wu and trying to rock into him. Mako pulled Wu down so he could kiss him haphazardly before interrupting himself with a loud moan as Wu rolled his hips experimentally. Satisfied with Mako’s reaction, Wu began to move in a slow, sensual rhythm.
Mako had one hand gently gripping the hair at the back of Wu’s head, while the other hand rested against his back. Wu was getting noisier by the second, but not faster… not fast enough for Mako’s liking, and Mako had a pretty good idea of how to solve that problem. Somehow, Mako shifted his weight a bit and managed to fluidly flip their positions, straddling Wu’s hips as Wu looked up at him in slight confusion. “What was thaaAAAH–!”
Wu couldn’t even finish speaking as Mako sunk down onto him. Eyes closed and brow furrowed, Mako focused on setting a much faster pace, and Wu was practically shouting as he dug his fingertips into Mako’s thighs. Mako wasn’t being much quieter really, and damn… Wu had thought Mako’s voice sounded good even when he was just speaking, but this was on a whole other level entirely. Looking up at him like this, the only thought Wu could even begin to form was that Mako was gorgeous. After a moment though, Wu noticed something else. He grabbed at Mako’s arm and breathlessly murmured “Mako, h-hey…”
Mako responded by furrowing his brow even further. “Hm?” he huffed. He was blushing, and breathing heavily… but he also appeared to be pointedly avoiding looking Wu in the eye. “Why won’t you look at me…?” Wu mumbled. Mako gave a low groan. “Ugh… god Wu, do you even know what you look like right now…? I wouldn’t last two seconds if I…” he trailed off as he leaned down and kissed Wu deeply. Then he braced his arms against the bed on either side of Wu’s head for leverage.
In spite of Mako’s efforts, neither of them could’ve lasted much longer after that anyway. It was less than a minute before Wu let out a final cry that sounded an awful lot like Mako’s name, writhing and shuddering as Mako felt him cum. That was when Mako finally let himself look at Wu, and in an instant it was over.
Mako carefully lifted off of Wu, then collapsed heavily on top of him. They spent a moment trying to catch their breath, bodies heavy and still sensitive to each other’s touch. The prince ran his fingers through Mako’s hair as Mako rested his head against Wu’s chest, listening to his heartbeat return to a normal rate. It was very calming, and he felt himself smile a little. When Mako finally picked his head up again, he found Wu watching him with such fondness… it was overwhelming.
“Hey” Wu said quietly with his fingers still brushing through Mako’s hair. Mako was suddenly hit with a wave of shy affection for this strange and wonderful boy that he was slowly realizing he might just be in love with. He felt himself blushing and hid his face against Wu, sighing in either contentment or frustration, he really couldn’t say which. “Hey” he whispered back.
In which a wonderful anon has actually written this fic and I'm just submitting it for the world to see. Whoever you are, I love this.
Mako and Wu had been running a bit late this evening. Truth be told, this hadn't happened in a while. Mako used to be really bad at gauging how long Wu's primping would take prior to large events, but by now he thought he had this scheduling thing down pat. He guessed he'd chalk up today's blunder to complacency. Since their arrival at the party, all Mako had to worry about was tailing Wu through the crowds of people, and trying not to lose track of him.
As they wandered and Wu chatted, Mako became sharply aware of the buffet table... and the fact that neither of them had eaten anything since that afternoon. It took some doing, but eventually he did manage to steer the prince over towards the food. "Would it kill you to stop gabbing for long enough to eat something?" Mako grumbled.
"Oh Mako, you know I'm just making up for lost time" Wu replied. "Although... I guess it couldn't hurt to have something..." He said it as though Mako's mention of food had only just made him aware of his own appetite, which was probably accurate. Wu promptly grabbed a plate and started loading it up.
Mako followed suit with a little less gusto. None of the food there was particularly familiar to either of them, and in a minute or two, Wu was discovering that not everything he'd grabbed was quite to his liking. More specifically, he found his mouth burning up in reaction to most everything he ate.
Mako wasn't sure if it was because he was a fire bender, or if he simply had a higher tolerance... but the heat of the food didn't seem to bother him as much. Even so, the next time a tray of drinks came into view, they both eagerly grabbed several to wash down the spicy entrees. Mako had already downed his fourth one before it dawned on him that the drinks being served were all alcoholic.
He turned to Wu with the intention of warning him not to have too many, but Wu had already cornered the man with the tray and was downing the little fruity cocktails like they were water. He was still a little red in the face when Mako dragged him away. "Wait, Mako, my mouth is still burning...!" Wu whined.
"I know, I know! We're going to find a bathroom. We can get water from the sink. If you kept drinking those like that, you would've been wasted in a heartbeat." Mako said. He was just hoping that the damage hadn't already been done. He hadn't seen exactly how many cocktails Wu put away before he got to him, so Mako had no way of knowing what he was in store for that evening.
Unfortunately for Mako, the question started answering itself in the worst way not five minutes later. Wu was a handful when he was drunk, plain and simple. He'd get super touchy-feely, and proclaim his love for any and everyone around him, while his limbs would take on the relative uselessness of wet noodles. Mako had elected to remove the prince from the party before he got too bad, but now that they were in the car, Wu was getting gigglier and more flushed by the minute.
Half the time he was practically in Mako's lap, and he kept singing tuneless, wavery versions of various popular songs that Mako could only barely recognize. "Oh my god just... please. Sit. Down." Mako huffed in exasperation. "Where do you even think you're going? We aren't there yet!"
Wu just giggled some more and slumped on top of Mako. Mako sighed and pulled him back into his lap. He'd given up on trying to get Wu into a seat belt, but the guy needed to stay put somehow. He managed to keep the prince pinned long enough for Wu to become distracted by the buttons on Mako's shirt.
As Wu idly toyed with them, Mako realized with a sinking feeling that he was also starting to feel a little woozy. Whatever he'd had to drink at the party was affecting him too. He was silently thankful that they'd left the party when they did. Wu was still alternating between talking and humming little bits of music here and there, but now that he was less animated, Mako actually found it somewhat calming.
By the time they reached the hotel, Mako was on the verge of falling asleep. He was still aware that they had to get inside, but his perception of everything felt a little fuzzy around the edges, and he was having trouble concentrating. He managed to get Wu up to his room, but once they were there, his own legs gave out and the two of them flopped haphazardly onto the bed.
Mako pushed himself back to his feet as quick as his lousy coordination would allow, knowing that if he let himself rest, that'd be the end of it. He put all of his focus on removing the prince's shoes, which wouldn't have been so difficult if Wu wasn't trying to sit up. As soon as that was done, Mako tried to push him back down. "Go to sleep," he said with mild annoyance. Wu had other ideas.
He grabbed Mako by the arm and pulled him onto the bed again. Mako ended up falling on top of him. "Stay with me." Wu demanded. Mako was trying to explain that he had every intention of staying in the room so he could take care of Wu in case he got sick, but his concentration was such that he couldn't be coherent and get off of the bed at the same time.
What did come out was "I'm not leaving" which Wu didn't buy because Mako was still trying to get up.
"No~!" Wu whined, and hugged Mako close, dragging him back down again as he pressed his face into the side of Mako's neck. Mako stopped moving for a minute and sighed in frustration.
This wasn't working. "I'll stay, but I want to sit in the chair." Mako said, pointing to the one next to the bed.
Wu scowled and nuzzled his face against Mako as he shook his head. Wu's arms already had Mako's shoulders in a vice grip, but then he wrapped his legs around Mako's waist too, leaving Mako comically trapped. Mako was quickly losing his motivation to move, so in a last-ditch effort to escape, he let himself become dead weight. He was hoping that Wu would get uncomfortable with how heavy he was and let him go.
At first, Mako thought it was working. Wu had started to whine and squirm beneath him, and he had let go with his legs, but he still had his arms around Mako's neck, and for someone so skinny, he sure could cling. Mako was just about to try to get up again when he was struck with the realization that Wu's struggling movements had a bit of a rhythm to them, and he kept pushing his hips up against Mako's lower abdomen.
Mako attempted to tell himself that Wu was just trying to make Mako support his own weight again, but then he felt the lump in Wu's pants as it rubbed against him and he couldn't ignore the situation anymore. He tried to get up one more time. "Let me go. You need to sleep." Mako said, but perhaps not with as much conviction as he would've liked.
Wu looked up at him, eyes clouded with inebriation and the beginnings of arousal. "No... Mako please... need you," Wu mumbled.
He still had his hands twisted in the back of Mako's shirt collar, and he used that to drag Mako's face down to his. Their mouths connected sloppily as Mako initially tried to pull away, but Wu was soft, and insistent, and Mako's mind was just foggy enough to let him pause and feel that for a moment. The moment kind of bled into something longer than that, and Mako was almost starting to lose himself in it when Wu began pressing his hips up against Mako again.
Mako half snapped back to reality, while another side of him was unexpectedly reluctant. With some difficulty, he pulled away from Wu. "We can't do this... you're drunk." he said, more to himself than to Wu.
"But I want to!" Wu whined. "please Mako...!" Wu had let go of Mako's shoulders now, so Mako sat back on his knees, but he surprised himself by staying put aside from that.
Mako's brain was too sluggish to work through this moral dilemma quickly, so he just sat there looking at Wu in a bit of a daze. Wu brought a hand down to rub himself through his pants while he used the back of his other hand to muffle some of the noises he was making. Mako found that his body was starting to take an interest in this situation, even if his mind hadn't made itself up yet.
He watched as Wu began trying to undo his pants, struggling with the zipper in his drunken state. "Mako..." he whimpered pathetically as he curled onto his side and tugged at his pants in frustration. Mako rolled his eyes and accidentally made himself slightly dizzy. He told himself that this was insane, then reached over to help Wu get his pants off.
In his head Mako kept telling himself that he'd go sit in the chair by the bed after this, and that Wu could do whatever he wanted on his own, but as he was undoing the button on Wu's pants, Wu rolled his hips up into Mako's hand and gasped at the sensation. "Your hands are so warm..." Wu sighed. Mako felt his face heat up, but he didn't take his hand away.
He undid the zipper and shifted so Wu could shove his pants down, but instead of continuing to touch himself, Wu sat up so he could look Mako in the eye. He was still really wobbly, eyes heavy-lidded and cheeks tinged pink. Mako expected him to say something, but Wu just kept leaning in closer and closer...
Mako could've pulled away. He could've gotten off of the bed, gone over, sat in the chair like he was supposed to, and in the morning they would pretend that nothing happened at all. He could've... but he didn't. He just remained perfectly still, feeling the soft press of lips against his. It felt like a question, and he wasn't sure he knew the answer.
In the end instinct took over, and before he was even really aware of what he was doing, he found himself kissing Wu back. Wu settled himself in Mako's lap and wrapped his arms around Mako's neck again, shoving his hands into Mako's hair and pulling lightly. Mako groaned at that and bit gently at Wu's lower lip. He had slid his hands under Wu's shirt and up his sides, feeling his ribcage move as he breathed.
There was a brief moment in which Mako became sharply aware of what he was doing and broke out of the kiss. What would the boss think if she found out? What about Korra, and Asami, and... oh god, what would Bolin think of him? He was just about to put a stop to whatever was going on here, but it was at that moment that Wu decided to grind up against Mako again, and this time it was Mako's turn to gasp and grab at Wu's thighs, pulling him in closer.
"Screw it." he thought to himself. He wanted this too much right now. This was happening. He started placing soft kisses against the prince's neck as he moved his hands to Wu's ass. Wu let out a shuddering breath as Mako pressed him forward, generating more friction between them. Mako had mouthed his way to a particular spot by Wu's jaw, just under his ear, that had him positively melting in Mako's arms.
Mako was sure that was going to leave a mark, but he didn't care. He just continued ravishing Wu's neck until he got to his shirt collar. After a bit of fumbling, he managed to get enough of the buttons undone that he could pull the shirt the rest of the way off over Wu's head. At that point, Wu decided that he wanted Mako shirtless too, but his attempts illustrated that he was still easily thwarted by buttons, so Mako had to do it himself.
He had only gotten one button undone before Wu got impatient. He shoved Mako's shirt up as far as it would go and began kissing whatever he could get his mouth on. Mako groaned as he felt Wu nipping along his ribs, while his hands wandered on down Mako's abs. Mako frantically worked to disentangle himself from the rest of his shirt.
When Mako finally got it off, Wu wasted no time. He mouthed along Mako's collarbone while his thumbs found the dip in Mako's pelvis, tracing the lines down until Mako's pants got in the way. Wu hooked his thumbs into Mako's waistband, tugging insistently.
At first Mako ignored it. He was too busy running his hands over Wu's body, enjoying the feeling of holding someone. Then Wu scooted down just enough so he could run his tongue over one of Mako's nipples. That got his attention. Mako arched his back and moaned. All the while, Wu was still fiddling with Mako's fly... but this time he actually got the button undone.
Wu immediately shoved both of his hands down the front of Mako's pants, palming his erection through his underwear. After Mako's initial low gasp of surprise, he responded by wrapping his arms around Wu and tipping him backwards against the pillows so Mako could be on top of him. Wu's hands were still trapped where he'd put them, and Mako's new position was perfect for him to grind down into Wu's palms.
Wu whimpered and wiggled his fingers. He wanted to actually touch Mako, but the fabric had him pinned. Mako took the hint and pushed his pants all the way off. He sat back for a minute, still straddling Wu. The two took their time just looking at each other. For a moment, Wu was struck by how daunting it really was to have Mako nearly naked, sitting there on top of him and looking at him that way.
Wu reached out a tentative hand and pressed his palm against the tent in Mako's boxers. He took it in his hand as best he could through the fabric, rubbing slowly up and down the length. Mako's breathing became heavy as he watched Wu explore. To make things easier, he scooted himself closer so that his knees were on either side of Wu's chest.
After a moment, Wu finally hooked his fingers under the elastic and began to slowly pull down Mako's underwear. As soon as Mako was fully exposed, Wu used the boxers to tug Mako forward. Wu tentatively pressed his tongue flat against the head, making Mako shudder and sigh heavily. Mako carded his fingers gently through Wu's hair, pushing his bangs up and out of the way.
Wu looked up at Mako as he licked up the underside and sucked along the shaft. Mako was looking down at him reverently, even as he tried to hold back the needy little sounds that he was definitely making anyway. He cupped Wu's face in his hands, rubbing his thumb affectionately over his cheek as Wu took Mako all the way into his mouth. Mako moaned loudly and braced himself against the headboard as Wu started bobbing and doing this wonderful thing with his tongue...
Mako tried so hard not to move his hips, but sooner or later he couldn't help it, and Wu choked the first time he jerked forward. Mako quickly pulled out and was apologizing even while Wu gave him a wobbly grin and tried to reassure Mako that he was totally fine. Mako kept babbling about how this was a bad idea until Wu had to kiss him, just so he'd shut up.
That went over well. Mako settled his weight comfortably on top of Wu, kissing him fervently, then realized that Wu wasn't even fully unclothed yet. Mako was halfway between surprised and embarrassed that they'd gotten this far and managed to neglect Wu's needs... especially when Wu was the one who started all of this.
Mako slid his hands over Wu's ass, taking his underwear down as he went, then reached down between them to touch Wu for the first time. In the space of less than a minute, Wu completely fell to pieces. Wu was noisy right from the get go, which Mako had sort of figured he would be. However, Mako hadn't counted on the effect that this fact would have on him in the moment.
Every time Wu moaned, Mako found himself aching for contact. He decided to forgo the handjob and switch to desperately grinding against Wu. Wu had his back arched and his head turned, so half his face was pressed into the pillow, which left his neck enticingly exposed. Mako couldn't resist marking him up all over again, nibbling at his earlobe and sucking small bruises all the way down to his collarbone.
Wu was panting and gripping the pillow behind his head for dear life. He had started saying Mako's name in little huffing breaths here an there, especially when Mako did something particularly good with his hips. Mako, while quieter, was starting to press small whining moans into Wu's skin along with his kisses.
Suddenly, Wu let out a high-pitched yelp and practically shouted Mako's name. Mako felt the telltale warm stickiness spreading between them as Wu went boneless. The realization of what had just happened was enough to get him off in another couple of short quick thrusts against Wu's hip. He came with his face buried in Wu's shoulder to muffle himself.
Mako collapsed heavily on top of Wu, breathing hard. They spent a long moment just lying there and trying to catch their breath. Eventually Mako must've dozed off because he awoke to Wu poking him in the face. It was still dark, so he couldn't have been out for that long. "Hm?" he mumbled drowsily.
"I was uh... hoping to get cleaned up?" Wu said softly. "Sorry, I really didn't want to wake you... you're so cute when you're asleep!"
Mako pretended not to hear that last part. "Right." he said groggily. He got up, grabbed a robe and his boxers, then picked up Wu, blanket and all, and started carrying him to the bathroom before the prince could say anything. Wu smiled to himself as he tucked his head against Mako's chest.
The bathroom in their suite contained a large bathtub, which Mako began to fill. Wu wrapped himself in the blanket and sat down on the toilet seat while Mako leaned against the counter beside him. In the meantime, they started wiping themselves off with washcloths just to remove the worst of the stickiness."You want to go first?" Mako asked, gesturing to the tub.
Wu cocked an eyebrow at him quizzically. "Couldn't we just share the bath? You don't look like you could stay awake long enough for me to finish, and I am not going second." Wu scoffed. Mako blinked a bit. Then he started laughing. He had completely blanked on the fact that they had just had sex, and reverted back to bodyguard behavior. How do you even forget something like that?? Wu smiled at him fondly.
"So, what are we now?" he asked, leaning comfortably against the counter.
"Buddies? Strictly professionals? Friends with benefits? Dating? I'm fine with anything really... just as long as you stick around." Wu's content smile took on a tentatively hopeful tone as he waited for Mako's reply.
Mako was still a bit self conscious, but it really didn't even take him that long to formulate a reply. "I love you..." he said quietly, then leaned down to kiss Wu on the forehead. "...you dolt" he finished.
Wu looked mockingly offended. "How rude!" he exclaimed, but there was no mistaking how happy he was, with his face all flushed and his goofy grin plastered to his face in spite of himself. Mako couldn't help but smile back.
When the firebender went swimming, he became a little boy, splashing about, getting in fights with his brother, and laughing like the former Prince had never seen before. Wu chuckled, watching him, Bolin, Korra and Asami play in the resort pool. He was sitting on the side in a beach chair, calmly sipping cherry-berry lemonade and enjoying the sun’s rays.
“Wu,” Mako waved to him from the pool, “Come on in, the water’s great!”
Wu looked at him over his sunglasses, “I think I’m alright from here,” He said, and indeed he was. From here he could see each drop of water sliding down Mako’s body.
Mako’s friends seemed satisfied with the answer, though Mako did not. He pulled himself out of the pool and walked over to sit next to Wu, not even bothering to use a towel, “You know,” Mako said, “If I recall correctly it was you who suggested we come to this resort to have fun.”
Wu smiled at him, “You’re having fun aren’t you?”
Mako rolled his eyes. “C’mon, how come I’ve never seen you go swimming? Wait, you can swim, right?”
Wu gave a short chuckle, “Yes, I can swim, it’s just not one of my favorite things.” He patted his hair lightly, “You know it curls up when it gets wet.”
“That’s what you’re worried about?” Mako said.
“It looks dorky.” Mako gave a small chuckle, “Shut up.” But Wu couldn’t stop himself from smiling.
“Your hair is fine, Wu, now come on.” Wu shook his head, “Alright then,” Mako said, standing up, “Give me your drink.”
Wu hesitantly handed him the drink. He should have been suspicious as Mako set said drink on the table next to him, yet he suspected nothing of the firebender’s plans until he was being lifted in the air and carried to the pool, “NOOOOOoooooo!” Wu cried as Mako picked up speed, “Wu down! Wu dow—“ But Mako had already jumped in the pool, the both of them creating an enormous splash.
They emerged from the water, Mako laughing, and Wu coughing the water out of his lungs. As Wu continued coughing, Mako became concerned, “Oh, Wu, I’m sorry, are you okay?” Mako put a hand on Wu’s back, checking to see if he needed further medicine…
…which left him completely vulnerable as Wu splashed him directly in his face.
Mako spat in surprise, wiping the water from his eyes. This time it was Wu laughing at him. Mildly frustrated, Mako splashed him back, though the Prince was ready and guarded his eyes.
They continued splashing one another and laughing, until they both noticed a sifting in the pool. It seemed as though the level was getting lower. They looked up to find Korra bending all of the water in the pool into an immense tidal wave, towering over them all. With an evil gleam in her eye, she said, “I win,” before the wave went crashing down on them.
Wu, Mako, Bolin, and Asami were sent sprawling, lifted out of the pool and landing hard on the ground outside. As the water returned to the pool, they were all left laughing, particularly Mako and Wu, who in the splash had held each other’s hands, and stayed close to one another.
Wu and Mako walked down the sidewalk, arm in arm, through Korra Park. “So…?” Mako asked.
“So…what?”
Mako sighed, “Are you having a good time?”
Wu smiled at him, “I always have a good time when I’m with you.”
Mako frowned at him, “You know what I meant.”
Wu sighed this time, looking around, “Well…admittedly a walk through the park isn’t my first thought for a
date.”
Mako rolled his eyes, “It’s a fairly standard date.”
Wu shrugged, “It’s kind of dirty.”
“It’s a park, of course there’s dirt.”
“And it’s a little chilly,”
Mako wrapped an arm around him, and said as seductively as he could, “I can always keep you warm.”
Wu blushed, smiling at him and burying his head in the taller man’s neck. “And then, of course,” he said,“there’s the giant statue of your ex-girlfriend constantly looking down on us.”
Wu and Mako looked up at the statue, “Ah,” Mako said, “didn’t think of that.”
Wu gave him a gentle nudge, “It’s alright, big guy, I really do enjoy your company. I’m just a little out of my element. There’s like, nothing to buy here.”
Mako sighed, looking around the park. “Here, you want to buy something for me?” He pulled Wu towards an ice cream vendor.
Wu chuckled as Mako led him over, “Isn’t it a little chilly for ice cream?”
“It’s never too cold for ice cream,” Mako said, “for me anyway. What flavor would you like?”
Wu looked at the options. “Hmmm,” There wasn’t a great deal of variety. “Mint Chocolate chip?”
Mako nodded, and turned to the vendor, “One cone of mint chocolate chip, and one cone of chocolate.”
Wu handed over the yuans necessary and the vendor prepared the cones. “I wouldn’t have pegged you for a chocolate kind of guy.”
Mako shrugged, “I’m full of surprises.” He said, putting his arm around Wu and leading him the rest of the way down the sidewalk to head back home. “I’m sorry, Wu,”
“For what?” Wu said, licking away at his ice cream.
Mako shrugged, taking a lick at his own scoop, “This was supposed to be the date I picked stuff, and it was all things you don’t like.”
Wu chuckled, “It’s fine, Mako,” he said, “Besides, I have ice cream and a handsome man on my arm. That sounds like a pretty good day to me.” He reached up to place a kiss on Mako’s cheek. Pulling away, he let out a giggle, “Sorry, got a little mint on you there,” He reached up to wipe the green ice cream off his cheek.
Mako wrapped his arm around the former prince, “I just wanted everything to be perfect.”
Wu lifted his arms in the air, “Of course it’s perfect, I—oh,” In his enthusiasm, the ice cream fell off of the cone and onto the ground. The both of them looked at it for a moment, “oops,”
“Here, I’ll go back and get you another one,” Mako said, turning, but Wu stopped him.
“Nah, don’t worry about it, we’re almost out of the park, let’s go home.” He wrapped his arm around Mako’s again and continued walking.
Mako bit his lip, looking at his own cone, “Do you…do you like chocolate?” He offered the cone to Wu.
He had been expecting Wu to take ahold of the cone. Wu seemed to have other ideas, as Wu leaned down to eat out of Mako’s hand. “Mm,” he said, “Tasty.”
Mako blinked in surprise, feeling flushed. He looked down and saw a bit of the chocolate dribbling down Wu’s chin. “You’ve um,” He swallowed, unsure of what to say, “You’ve got a little—“
Wu frowned at him, trying to figure out what Mako was referring too. Mako leaned down and licked the dribble of ice cream off of Wu’s lips. He then decided to kiss the prince, holding his ice cream steady.
Wu had jerked in surprise at the kiss, but soon accepted it. When Mako separated, they realized they had been blocking the gates to the park. Both blushing, they kept walking. “Um, Mako,” Wu said, “Can I have another bite?”Mako offered it to him again, and they shared it all the way back to their apartment.
Wu flinched behind Mako again. "It's alright," Mako reassured him, "The spirits don't harm humans. Not anymore anyway."
Wu glared at him, "for now..." he mumbled, still clutching the taller man's jacket like a life line. Why had he let Mako convince him to take a trek through the spirit world? Curse him and his sexy kisses. It just wasn't fair to kiss someone right before asking them a favor, especially if those kisses were from someone like Mako. It was illegal, or should have been.
Mako pulled him around to walk beside him, holding his hand, "I promise, nothing is going to attack us or whatev--"
He was cut off as something large and dark crossed their paths. Wu all but jumped into Mako's arms. Standing beside them was what looked like a huge spiderbat. "Well, well, well, what have we hear? A pair of humans wandering into my territory?" The spiderbat blinked some of its several eyes at them.
Wu gave a small whine of agony, but Mako stood between the two of them, preparing to firebend, "We're just passing through, I suggest you allow us."
The spiderbat grinned at them, "Ah, I see, I see, weary travelers before me. Perhaps you would be interested in a peek at the pond of lost possibility?" With all the drama it could muster, the spiderbat pulled aside a bush to reveal a tiny pond.
Wu, now under the impression they were not about to die, exchanged a look with Mako. Mako frowned at the spiderbat, "What is it?"
It rolled all 8 eyes. "It's in the name, kid. It shows you all that could have been. Just ask it a question and you shall see, all the 'what if's,' all the 'could be's."
Mako squinted at him, "You know, you only rhyme some of the time, right?"
Wu, meanwhile, looked fascinated at the pond, "Mako, lets have a look,"
The Spiderbat turned to him, an action that made the nonbender flinch. "A good choice young sir, only 2 yuan's a question."
Mako frowned further, "What kind of spirit charges yuans?"
The Spiderbat gave him a short glance, "Spirits can go through the portal too kid, and to buy stuff, you need yuans. Now, do we have a deal?"
Wu pouted his lip at Mako and, reluctantly, the firebender handed over a pair of yuans. Wu cautiously approached the pond and kneeled before the pond. He took a deep breath before he said, "Hey pond. What would have happened if Mako hadn't waffled between Korra and Asami and instead stayed loyal to one of them?"
"That's your question?" Mako asked in disbelief.
"Hey!" The spiderbat interrupted, "That's two questions!"
"What?" Mako said, "No it wasn't."
"Korra OR Asami, that's two different what if's."
"Yeah, but not two different questions," Mako said, "You said you charge by the question." The spiderbat looked like it wanted to argue more, but turned away, dejected.
"Would you both shut up?" Wu said, watching the pond. It began rippling. Mako appeared in the pond, but it was a younger Mako. He was walking down the street of republic city, when suddenly a motorcycle all but ran him over.
"I remember this," Mako said, over whatever it was he and Asami, who got off the bike, were talking about. Wu shushed him.
"So, dinner tonight?" Pond Asami said.
"Uh, actually," Pond Mako said, "Look, I'm...I'm really flattered, but um, there's uh, there's someone else I'm kinda interested in the moment." younger Mako awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck.
"Oh," Asami said, looking slightly hurt, "Well, I still do want to make it up to you. Can I take you and the team out? Just as a friendly dinner, I promise."
Mako smiled, "That sounds great."
The scene rippled to a restaurant with Mako, Bolin, Korra and Asami all laughing. Korra dropped food on her shirt, and Asami was quick, a little too quick, to take a napkin and dab at the stain. Mako pulled Asami aside after. "What, you like Korra now?"
Realization dawned on Asami, "Oh my--she's the one? The one you're interested in?" Mako nodded, "Oh, I'm...sorry...I..." Asami looked away, muttering, "Of course you're both pretty..." She took a deep breath, "You should ask her out."
Mako blushed, "I don't know...I mean I want to, but..."
"But nothing, just do it."
The scene rippled again, now showing only flashes, and some words, words Mako was familiar with.
"I can't believe you're taking his side"
"There aren't any sides!"
"Whose side are you on?"
"What is it with you and sides?"
"Well then maybe there's no room for our relationship!"
"I think we both know that this? doesn't work."
Lin's voice came through, "Mako, I need a skilled police officer to watch over the Earth Prince while he's in Republic City, and you're it."
Outside of the pond Mako and Wu blinked at each other, "So, even if you only asked out Korra...you still would have ended up with me?" Wu said, in awe.
Mako gave a small shrug, "Well, to be honest, me and Korra's problems weren't just with Asami."
The pond began flickering, now apparently showing how it would have been with just Asami. Surprisingly, it showed Mako and Korra on a balcony. Mako flinched, knowing what this memory was all too well.
Korra leaned in, trying to kiss Mako, but this time, Mako dodged it, "Look, Korra, I value your friendship a lot, and maybe if things were different..." Mako shook his head, "I'm sorry, but, I'm with Asami."
Korra looked at her feet, tears holding steady at the corner of her eyes, "Oh..." she cleared her throat, "I'm sorry."
She ran off, blowing straight past Bolin holding a bouquet of flowers.
The scene rippled, showing Mako carrying an injured Korra, while Asami looked dejected. the scene changed once again, showing Mako and Asami talking.
"Look, Mako, I like Korra, I really do, but...if you care about her..."
Mako shook his head, "I don't! Well, I do, I--I mean I did, but I'm with you?"
Asami crossed her arms, "Because you would have chosen me, or because I got to you first?"
Mako blinked, "I...I don't know..."
Asami shook her head, stopping herself from crying. "Look, I--I'm really pretty, and I'm smart and I'm rich, and I am NObody's second choice. So, I need to know right now, would you rather be with Korra?"
Mako stood there, mouth open, not sure of what to say, but his silence was enough. "Goodbye Mako."
Lin's voice came through again, "Mako, I need a skilled police officer to watch over the Earth Prince while he's in Republic City, and you're it."
Mako blinked, "So...it wouldn't have worked either way..." He looked over at Wu to see the former prince with his hand over his mouth, tears brimming in his eyes, "Whoa, hey, what is it? what's wrong?"
Wu shook his head, wiping his eyes, "I just...I always thought...that if you had the chance to be with either of them..."
Mako wrapped his arm around the smaller man's shoulders and pulled him in to kiss the top of his head. "Wu...you are handsome, and you are smart, in your own kind of way, and you're rich, and you're nobody's second choice. Certainly not mine."
Wu held onto them. The Spiderbat approached them, "Very touching, very touching, now, do you have any more questions? Only 4 more yuans!"
Mako frowned at him, "You said it was 2 yuans for a question."
The Spiderbat's smile seemed incredibly strained now. "That was for the first question, the second one costs 4."
Mako rolled his eyes, "Come on, Wu, we should head back to Republic City." They got up and began walking back down the path, hand in hand.
Wuko? nah I don't even ship that I don't know what you're--okay I've been thinking about this one.
who holds the umbrella when it rains Mako, clearly, Wu would never hold his own umbrella, he's too princely for that.
who is the grumpiest in the morning Mako tends to be grumpier, but that's because he has to wake up earlier. He's trained himself to be functional in the mornings, but he doesn't have to like it. Wu usually gets enough beauty rest he wakes up with a smile.
who worries more when the other is sick/hurt Mako worries more, playing the part of the proper platypus-bear mother. Wu panics, usually throwing soft pillows at him and not knowing how to properly care for him.
who plays pranks on the other Wu tries. Mako usually catches him in the act.
who is always the first to suggest cuddling on the sofa Wu suggests cuddling ALL the time, with his big tough guy.
who insists on creating nicknames for the other Wu again. Heck, we've already got "my big tough guy." Most of these nicknames start with "my"
who drools on the other when they’re asleep Usually Wu, who is cuddled up on Mako anyway, but Mako does as well, more often than you'd think.
who says ‘I love you’ first Wu says it almost constantly, but when Mako finally says it, it takes them both off guard.
