4/28/2025 - Wuppo: Definitive Edition
Wuppo was a very unique and charming experience! It's a bit hard to explain or sell what exactly Wuppo is, it's kind of a Metroidvania where you explore one giant interconnected map and open new passages and routes with items, but the overall tone is pretty laid-back and filled to the brim with other characters and civilizations, so it never really falls into the styles of true Metroidvanias. You aren't always exploring or looking for secrets too, sometimes you'll be following other objectives or just kinda meandering around. There's a chunk near the middle of the game where you just have to do chores around a big apartment building and get through all its little passageways and nooks and crannies and I dunno, something about that was just kinda fun with how the game is stylized and things are presented.
If there is one major hurdle to comment on it's that the game has a very peculiar control scheme, at least on controller (which is how I played). Since you used a twin stick format to both walk and aim & shoot a gun, the shoulders are used to jump and the face buttons are used to access quick menus, though A still activates interactables, which is quite odd. It's a little tricky at first to jump back into after putting down, but it's not something that ever broke my enjoyment for long periods of time.
