“Woah what the heck was that!?”
“Quick, pull it up, pull him up. Now Sweeney!”
The boat had lurched to the side, rocking in place as the water around it was torn apart and thrown in unnatural directions. Fish dangled by his arms below the boat, in an open space where water was supposed to be. There was sort of a pool, a dish-shaped emptiness around him from where the boy had pushed all of the water away, along with the shark.
Alik and Sweeney stood uptop in awe. Shocked at the sheer force that had forced the water away in all directions. It lurched the boat, knocking them both on their feet. As soon as they regained their footing, Sweeney grabbed the rope and started raising the boy up and back into the boat. They pulled him in, dropping him onto the ground. His head lolled to the side and his chest rose and fell heavily, but he was awake.
His wrists were untied and he was pulled to his feet.
“What was that boy?” Alik demanded.
Fish mumbled something under his breath. The water that was being forced apart sloshed back together almost immediately, and the boat rocked and bucked against the waves. The three men slammed up against the side of the boat as it rocked, water splashing over the sides before it steadied again after a few terrifying moments.
Alik grabbed Fish by the shoulders. “You idiot! You could have capsized this boat! Caused a shipwreck! Do you know how stupid that was?” He shook the poor boy, his head lolling to the side.
Fish groaned out slightly and Alik slammed him against the side of the boat, pressing a forearm across his throat. The boy’s eyes got wide.
“What kind of creature are you!?” Alik screamed. He pressed harder into Fish’s neck and the boy gagged, sputtering out water and gasps of air. “Answer me!” The boy shook his head, tears welling up in his eyes. Alik grabbed him by the arm and threw him to the ground, his knees scraping the deck. He turned to Sweeney, speaking in a low tone. “We’ve got to do something.”
At all the ruckus the captain had walked out of his cabin, dressed in his sleepwear. “What’s going on?” He growled.
Fish lied limp on the ground, and the Captain stepped over his shaking body as Alik called him over.
“Sir, he nearly capsized the boat. He’s dangerous.” Alik warned.
The captain looked over as Fish was struggling to rise to his feet. He was resting on his hands and knees, visibly shaking as his soaking blond hair dripped over his face.
“Stand up.” The captain barked. “Look me in the eye.”
When the boy was too slow, Sweeney grabbed him from behind and held him up. His head lolled against his chest.
“I said look me in the eye.”
