Blackwater Biota: Liar's Sea Lantern - Continued [A thank you for 600 notes!:D]

"Liar's Sea Lanterns are typically solitary hunters. With its long, ever growing body, it's more than capable of corralling all manner of prey on its own. However, during the height of winter – when Blackwater is warm and great shoals follow the fleeting heat – Sea Lanterns can be found in mass. It is within these rare feeding frenzies that the creatures also “spawn”. Hunting so close together, their tails tangle and tear, allowing immature lanterns to be released. The young Lanterns do not stick around to feed with the adults, though. It must find itself in the depths before it finds itself in the jaws of its cannibalistic parent."

Blackwater Biota: Liar's Sea Lantern (part 2 <-here)

"Sea Lanterns are mid-sized to large creatures that participate in aggressive night-time feeding at the surface before returning to the depths during the day. Their translucent body and bioluminescent innards act as a lure for prey and they won't hesitate to snatch sailors that lean too far over the rails, trying to get a better look at the lights.

Their 'tails' are composed of hundreds of immature Sea Lanterns that will form into mature Sea Lanterns once separated from the others, so long as they aren't too damaged."
