A bit of brightness on a rare grey day this summer. This is The Embrace by Minky Stapleton and is part of #thewhaletales2022 which on in Auckland until April 18. Sculptures around Auckland that are inspired by the Bryce’s whale to celebrate Aotearoa, art & marine conservation. After the exhibition the artworks will be auctioned with proceeds going to @wwfnz The Embrace by Minky Stapleton is about acceptance. “For the world to move forward, we have to accept ourselves. Absolutely Heart breaking to see the New Zealand Sea Lion (Phocarctos hookeri) has slipped down the IUCN RedList for endangered species —one of the rarest sea lions in the world, also known as the Hookers Sea lion has been moved to "endangered" status on the list, due mainly to disease, changes to its habitat caused by fishing and accidental death as a result of bycatch. The species has never recovered from the severe population depletion which occurred due to commercial hunting early in the 19th century.
