William felt awful, making Bill worry about him like this. He didn’t want to him to waste his time worrying about something so stupid– William could fix himself up, it would just take some time… But- he appreciated it. Honestly- Bill was the only think that kept William from feeling as though he was all alone here. Without him- William had no idea what he’d do.
“S-Something like that…” The demon replied, brows knitting together in worry for a moment before a soft sigh escaped his cut lip. “I accidentally spilled some t-tea over Mabel- i-it must have hurt pretty bad, they were furious…” He mumbled, fiddling with the ends of his sleeves in a nervous manner before speaking up once more. “B-But it’s not as though I did it on purpose-!”
“ Hey, hey buddy, relax. You’re safe now. Com’ere, jeez, they banged you up good. I haven’t seen injuries like these since the last time a poacher tried to nab a Manotaur for his fireplace. They weren’t even from me! The beasts knocked his teeth out for steppin’ foot in their area with a crossbow. Listen pal, if you wanna take down a Manotaur you’re gonna need a small army, am I right? ”
Bill hoped his chatter distracted his counterpart from the heavy stinging that came with healing magic. The demon’s magic mostly specialized in offensive tricks, and his healing abilities still had a few kinks he needed to smooth. Bill bit his lip in concentration. He just wanted to get this over with.
Taking a human form for a couple hundred years or so had its effects on the demon. For instance, he found himself craving strawberry ice cream more so than he would as a triangle. But, on a deeper level, he began to feel attachments to people. Human emotions were powerful forces; probably the most powerful force the dream-demon had ever come in contact with. After protecting the Falls from adversaries for all these years, he began to subconsciously associate himself with the trope of “guardian.”
Will was no exception. He was unjustly thrown into the Gleefuls’ chaotic and malicious world. And, as much as he would like to disagree, he had taken William under his wing of protection as well.
