Argo II Era / poly!percabeth x hypnos!reader
a/n. i’m lowkey loving the poly fics rn 😛
c/w. light angst, self doubt, comfort
the Argo II loomed like a bronze leviathan over camp half-blood, its sails catching the early morning breeze, its hull humming with celestial energy. the launch field was alive with movement—demigods darting between crates, final enchantments being cast, and the scent of strawberry fields mixing with the metallic tang of anticipation.
you stood just beyond the crowd, hands tucked into your hoodie sleeves, watching the chaos unfold with a quiet ache in your chest. you had known this moment was coming. you had seen it in your dreams—soft, drifting visions gifted by your father, Hypnos. in every one, the Argo II rose into the sky, and you remained behind, a silent observer swallowed by mist. part of you was okay with that. the other part…
you weren’t a fighter. not like annabeth, with her celestial bronze and battle-hardened gaze. such a wise girl but far too ahead of you. not like percy, with his storm-born strength and ocean’s fury. you were the dreamer. the one who soothed nightmares and whispered calm into restless minds. you were useful, sure—but not essential. not for something as sinister as war.
annabeth found you easily, like she always did. her steps were purposeful, her armor gleaming under the rays of the sun. her eyes locked onto yours with laser focus. she stopped in front of you, tilting her head slightly.
“you’re quiet,” she said knowingly.
you shrugged. “just thinking.”
“dangerous habit for you,” she teased, but her voice was soft. she knew you well enough to hear the tension beneath your calm.
you slowly looked up at the ship, then back at her. the silence shimmering.
“when you and percy get back… send me an Iris message, okay? just so I know you’re safe.”
annabeth’s brows furrowed in confusion. “what are you talking about?”
“well i’m not going,” you said, trying to sound casual. “i’ll stay here. help Chiron. keep the cabins calm. i’m not—”
“no,” she said, cutting you off. “you’re coming with us, no arguments.”
“there’s no room to argue,” she said, stepping closer. “you’re part of this. you’re part of us, and we all stay together.”
you opened your mouth, but she reached out and took your hand, grounding you instantly. her grip was firm, warm, and unshakable. like she was trying to grasp your soul to understand how she felt.
“you really think we would leave you behind?” percy’s voice rang out behind you, and you turned to see him jogging over, his smile crooked and familiar. “not a chance.”
he wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you into a hug that smelled like sea salt and campfire.
“you’re the only one who can keep me from sleepwalking off the deck,” he joked.
you laughed, but it cracked at the edges. “yeah but, c’mon percy, i’m not a hero. not like you or annabeth at least.”
percy pulled back, his expression serious now. “neither am I. not really. i just try not to drown when things go wrong.”
annabeth nodded. “we don’t need you to fight. we need you to be you. to remind us why we’re doing this in the first place.”
you looked between them—annabeth, fierce and brilliant; percy , loyal and wild—and felt something shift inside you. like a dream changing shape. like a prophecy rewriting itself.
you closed your eyes, just for a moment, and the mist of Hypnos curled around your thoughts. you saw flashes—annabeth asleep beside you on the deck, percy laughing in the rain, the three of you standing together in a Roman forum, bruised but unbroken.
you opened your eyes, which were now filled with reassurance.
“okay,” you whispered. “i’ll come with you guys.”
annabeth smiled, triumphant. percy kissed your cheek, grinning. and together, you walked toward the Argo II.
because love wasn’t something you watched fly away.
it was something you flew with.
