“A-are you sure I-I can t-touch your belly?” Evgeny asked, his hands inches away from extended stomach - his fingers twitching from either nervousness or cold.
Honestly you can’t tell the difference between the two either way.
He’s always been terrified of accidentally hurting you, even if it’s just a simple touch.
And now that he found out that you’re pregnant with his baby - he’s been barely able to function.
Constantly frozen in place like a statue.
“It’s okay” you said, trying to be convincing “you won’t hurt me or the baby if you caress it a little”.
He was hesitant, unsure if he could trust your word or not.
So you gently took his hands, shivering from his cold blue skin and slowly pulled them down towards your stomach.
Seeing if he would freeze up or not; and to your surprise, he didn’t.
His brows furrowing with confusion.
Wondering what he was even feeling for before he felt something shift around.
He gasped softly, his eyes widening with surprise.
“W-was that th-the baby?” He asked quietly.
“I think so” you responded “maybe move your hands a bit”.
He did what you suggested; moving his hands only a few inches.
Suddenly, the baby decided to kick.
Making Evgeny yelp and jolt up in surprise - yanking his hands away.
You couldn’t help but laugh at his reaction “did the baby scare you?”.
His cheeks darkened with embarrassment “I-I just didn’t e-expect that to happen” he stammered.
Placing his hands back on your stomach; this time more focused.
His fingers tightening when the baby kicked again.
“I-I c-can feel t-their heartbeat…” he whispered, rubbing his thumb where stretch marks will appear after all of this.
“Do you think it’s going to be twins?” You asked innocently.
Evgeny Feeling himself crumbling from the inside; he could barely handle the pressure of one infant, but two?
He would probably die.
“I-I’m fine w-with just o-one” he stated “you never know~!”.
“You’re-you’re not he-helping my n-n-nerves!” He squeaked sheepishly.
You laughed again; placing a comforting kiss on his forehead.
Sending a small wave of much needed reassurance through him.
But his body was still filled with fear, both for the present and the future.
The poor man probably spent his whole life being cold and alone; now thrusted into a life of domestic routine with you and his child who is now only two months away from arriving.
He wasn’t used to being around such warmth; but it wasn’t scorching hot like the sun but… a hearth that that gave solace to anyone who was near.
So, gathering the courage he slipped his hands under your shirt to have a better feeling for your swollen belly.
Your body tensing up with the bare contact of his hypothermia skin.
Even with all of his fears - he still wanted to bond with his family.
Evgeny leaned down and placed his head onto your stomach; taking in a deep breath and slowly exhaling.
The baby’s heartbeat thumped against his head, feeling their movements on his cheek.
“Do you want to talk to them?” You asked.
Evgeny looked at you confused “t-talk t-to them?” He asked, looking at you with wide cat-like eyes.
“Yeah, I heard that babies can hear sounds outside of the womb. Go ahead, try it!” You said encouragingly.
His eyes drifted towards your belly, wondering what he should even say.
“Uhm…..uhmmm……h-hey there….l-little o-one” he stammered “I-It’s yo-your da-ad”.
You both waited in silence for a moment before the baby kicked.
Both of you gasped softly “y-yeah, I-I’m your d-dad” Evgeny said - sounding more confident.
“Are you excited to meet your daddy?” You added along, followed by the baby kicking again.
“I’ll take that as a yes”.
You reached out and brushed your fingers over his hair, almost like you were petting a cat.
Your other one holding his, being mindful of his exposed nail beds.
“W-well, I’m e-excited to-to meet you t-too” Evgeny smiled.
”D-do you t-think that they w-will get m-my e-e-eyes or yours?” He asked.
“Well, it’s a 50/50 percent chance between us - so… who knows?” You hummed, leaning over to kiss his head.
