never forget November 24, 2010 I had the luck or happiness to see PETER live, 20 days before he passed away, from his last concerts, X-TG (post Throbbing Gristle) live at Casa da Música, OPorto, 5th November 2010… aggressive and mechanical noises in music, the destroyers of civilization are among us, in Portugal 2010: Fanni Tutti, Peter Christopherson and Chris Carter. mentality they had of "Let's just make some hellish music", some of the industrial stuff is kind of aggressive and even with trained ears it can be difficult to listen to a whole album if you don't know anything about the context in which it's happening. Most of them had no formal musical training, but released innovative experimental works with few resources other than homemade electronics and some of the cheapest equipment money could buy. With such limited equipment, they managed to release noisy walls of pure distorted sound, horrible ambient textures, and many songs that wouldn't be out of place on a Kraftwerk album. Without them and Suicide, they might never have had "Time to REALLY make some music." some of its peers are a little more relevant to where Industrial would go next, but are often underrated in comparison (e.g. Cabaret Voltaire).
I think it's impossible to understand early industrial music without understanding the politics out of which it emerged. One of the best books on the subject is titled Assimilate, but it's really a deep dive into the "why" rather than the "what" of industrial music: what social pressures shaped the music.
TG is best understood as part of the transgressive art collective COUM Transmissions. It was done with the purpose of causing disgust, that was the point. A perfect example is the cover of 20 Jazz Funk Greats: they look like a slightly retro band standing near a cliff, but on the back of the album cover, it's a similar slightly panoramic image with a naked dead body in a grassy field. (The cliff also happens to be a place where people went to commit suicide). By approaching the edge of decency and often exceeding it, they redraw the lines. This is their legacy.
Most bands usually have one or two people who drive their creativity. TG was one of the few where each member was as important as the next. The other work the members did continued to be amazing - Genesis went on to make the wonderful Psychic TV, Cosey Fanni Tutti & Chris Carter made amazing albums as Chris & Cosey (check out the "Heartbeat" & "Trance" albums) and continue to to produce brilliant songs like Carter Tutti Void with Factory Floor's Nik Colk Void. Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson went even better and formed Coil with John Balance - Coil's albums are almost religious texts

Throbbing Gristle officially began on September 3, 1975 and they officially disbanded on June 23, 1981.

Hipgnosis were an English art design group, based in London, that specialised in creating album cover artwork for rock musicians and bands.[1] Their commissions included work for Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, T. Rex, the Pretty Things, Black Sabbath, Wishbone Ash, UFO, 10cc, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Scorpions, the Nice, Paul McCartney & Wings, the Alan Parsons Project, Yes, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Electric Light Orchestra, Rainbow, Styx and Al Stewart.
Hipgnosis consisted primarily of Cambridge natives Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell, and later Peter Christopherson.[ The group dissolved in 1983, though Thorgerson worked on album designs until his death in 2013.
Powell has worked with Paul McCartney and the Who in film and video production, and as the creative director for both Pink Floyd and their lead guitarist David Gilmour.
Christopherson went on to produce music videos for many bands and shot some of the earliest promotional photography for the Sex Pistols, but worked primarily as an electronic musician in the bands Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and Coil until his death in 2010.
