give me angsty character who has never even experienced being liked and throw them somewhere where love is abundant. watch them be confused, watch them think something is wrong with the people around him.
watch them slowly start to realize: 'hey, maybe what i went through really wasn't normal' as the people around them lift each other up as high as they can and then watch them deal with the guilt of still loving the very people who made them feel unloved.
watch them choose to love. watch them try, fail, do it wonky, and watch the people around them help the best they can while giving them space.
and then, finally, after it all, watch them get it right. watch them stand on their own, steadfast in the belief that they were not treated the way they were supposed to be treated as a child, that it's not okay for a child — or anyone, really — to feel like they don't deserve love. watch them choose themselves over and over and over, and decide that no one ever gets to be treated like that.
