Rent and R&J
My first auditions since coming to Toronto are this weekend. RENT is tomorrow, Romeo & Juliet is Monday. Thank you for your well-wishes in advance! Going on a media blackout until Tuesday.
In theatre, we say "break a leg" instead of "good luck" presumbly out of superstition. My favourite origin theory of the phrase dates back to the 18th Century -- famous Shakespearean actor David Garrick became so entranced in his role as Richard III that he didn't notice his leg was fractured.
With that story in mind, I prefer to abstain from superstition and think of it this way: With a mind that's focused and a heart that's true, Good Luck isn't necessary. "Break a leg!" is a way to show you care with confidence.
I hope to get entranced.
