Bread’s Game Journal 07/23/20: Microsoft Stream Thoughts
Well that was pretty cool right? It was a pretty short presentation all things said, and a lot of the games that were shown were just stuff we already knew about, but between that Halo Infinite demo and Fable i think we all stand to benefit pretty well from all this! I’m glad Microsoft brought out their bigger guns here, because that third party presentation from a few months ago was pretty disappointing in terms of things I actually wanted to see, but this one was great!
The most notable thing, front loaded right up top, is Halo Infinite! I’ve talked about it on this blog before, sometimes jokingly other times more seriously, but I don’t quite understand the mass amount of vitriol I always see for the 343 era Halo games. Halo has lot a lot of it’s clout, yes, but it’ll always be a series I can have fun time with because it’s so intrinsically tied into my memories of playing Halo 2 and 3 all the time with my friends all throughout middle and high school. Infinite looks to be an interesting sort of semi-new take on the series. The levels seem a lot more open, but wide open levels isn’t something new to Halo! The bad guys seem to be a lot more traditional than the heavy focus on the forerunner stuff from the last two, but that’ll probably be okay!
I’ve seen some stuff about the game looking bad, some jokingly, some deadly serious, but I don’t really find myself minding that. For what it is, I’m sure the game will look and run just fine, and still be a really entertaining FPS experience like all the other Halo games usually wind up being! I’m excited to see if they can pull of this semi open world take on this classic franchise! Speaking of a returning franchise that could maybe benefit from going more open world....
Fable’s back! I feel like we’ve been sitting on that rumor of a Playground Games developed Fable reboot for so long! I’ve missed Fable a whole lot! We haven’t even had a traditional entry in the franchise since Fable 3 back in 2010, just a Kinect game and that cancelled multiplayer spin off! Fable always was a unique sort of open ended RPG, one I’d be glad to open itself up even more in the future with this new entry. Previous games confined you to smaller areas, but I can see a full open world Albion in my head and man do I want to play that!
Stray Announcement Notes:
- Don’t Nod’s Tell Me Why seems like exactly what people want from that studio, so i’m at least happy for those people!
- I really want to like Grounded from Obsidian, like I really want to, but man do I wish they had made that game in any other genre other than survival.
- Speaking of Obsidian, how about Avowed? We’re really gonna get an Obsidian made Elder Scrolls alike years before we get a new Elder Scrolls aren’t we?
- Double Fine just has Jack Black on retainer huh? Ready to put him in literally any game they make? I’m totally cool with it.
