Off in the shadows he lurked. This wasn't another patient, was it? A variant perhaps? The patients were nothing but weak mindless sheep but the others he had to be more wary of.

Until he was sure which one he was, Eddie was going to be careful.

"My Dear, you shouldn't wander around here alone. It's dangerous." He chuckled.

He didn't choose who he worked with based on just how much he liked them. He chose it based on who's abilities were strong enough to be trusted. He watched the demo trials himself. The simulations and everything to make sure that once they went behind enemy lines, the one person John would have no other choice but to rely on would follow through. Laflamme. Whatever kind of fucking name that was.  He scored a five out of five, so either way he didn't care who he was, what he looked like, or how much of an asshole he was as long as the job they had to do was done. They'd only spoken for a short amount of time. Going over specs and equipment checks. Asking question about the younger one's experience in the field, which surprisingly was close to none considering what he had gotten on the trial runs.  Definitely not what he wanted to hear going behind enemy lines. "Time to go. Transport's ETA: four minutes."

"They're coming to get you."

Miles drew several panicked breaths as he attempted to disregard what the variant had said. Unsurprisingly, he failed miserably, and proceeded to obsess over the statement ceaselessly. It would be different, Miles, thought, had the man before him told him something different. However, that particular statement was all too familiar – like poison, it had seeped from the static in his head into his thoughts and dreams. It was not often that Miles was able to discern statements of intelligent design from the whispers, but when he did, they haunted him. The static was in the air, as if some sort of inescapable plague.

After a prolonged moment of silence, Miles spoke. “I know,” Said he quietly.
