Although technically magic isn’t really done by the time Audrey is born (I can’t remember if there was a ban on magic or if it was just phased out of everyday life), Audrey was still blessed by the three fairies, but in secret, not at her christening. Magic performed at a big royal event when the royals are trying to phase magic out wouldn’t be a good image to show the public, after all. The gifts given to Audrey were beauty (a classic), confidence (needed more than song in this modern age), and ambition (confidence without the drive to get things done doesn’t help anyone).

I know. I’ve re-read it more than once?

I was asking more along the lines of “black person turns into an animal” - is that okay? (I haven’t seen responses to the movie that indicate it’s terrible so I’m going to lean more toward my initial reaction of “yay” for a black re-cast for the boy and grandmother).
