This was the first Culture novel I read, and the third ever written (I think) and it is definitely the most Heterosexual one I’ve encountered. Much of his later work includes explicitly androgynous and gender-changing humans, and I’ve come across every grade of sexuality (that I know of) within his novels so far. If you want to read another I recommend Surface Detail or Hydrogen Sonata, which are both much more recent. He definitely matured as an author.   

   (also, Surface Detail is a great follow-up read to Use of Weapons, but I recommend reading maybe two or three in between to get a sense of how much time passes between the two. Look to Windward is my favorite probably, and is needed to explain some of the in-universe stuff in Surface Detail.

Thanks! I’ll keep that in mind. If I ever get my hands on a different Culture, I’ll look at it.
