“So.. mall today?” Leah was practically jumping with excitement. Jonathan found it absolutely endearing. “There’s a sale on this cute black dress. I was thinking of buying it.”
He looked up into her glowing expression with love. “Anything you want baby.” Jonathan smiled as he blessed her with his agreement, despite knowing how many stores they were gonna end up dropping tons of cash on.
He didn’t mind though. For the first time in his life, Jonathan truly felt understood and comfortable. Leah never judged him, he trusted and loved spending time with her. She meant the absolute world to him and the most beautiful thing in life was making her happy.
“Yay!” Leah gave him a quick kiss before suddenly turning to rush him. “We’d better get going now. It’s gonna be BUSY!”
“Yes ma’am.” Jonathan chuckled a bit, twirling his hair while the couple made their way to the front door. “We should get dinner afterwards too. All that shopping is gonna make my girl hungry and we can’t have that can we?”
“You’re funny.” She said sarcastically but her eyes were rolling playfully to indicate there was no real annoyance behind her reaction.
“I’d certainly like to think so.” He winked at her before comfortably resting his arm around her shoulders while they walked outside towards his car.
“Whatever!” She giggled, kissing his cheek softly. “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, you know that?”
“Aww.” Jonathan grinned, softly kissing her lips a few times. “I’m so lucky to have you. You’re the love of my life.” His arm draped down to hold her hand, not taking his eyes off her now blushing face, even when she was sat down in the passenger seat.
….
As predicted, the mall was absolutely PACKED. Crowds upon crowds were piling in and out of the various stores surrounding the perimeter. Leah had eyes on her goal instantly. “I see it!” She exclaimed, practically dragging Jonathan by the hand that she’d been holding. Upon realizing, she halted some pressure. “Sorry baby!”
“It’s fine.” Jonathan chuckled, sharing a humours glance with the witnesses of this interaction.
“Isn’t it beautiful?” Leah turned their attention to the glamours dress she’d had her eyes on. “I’m gonna go try it on.”
“Alright babe.” He watched her go off to the change rooms; dress in hand. A few minutes passed and she stepped outside the stall. “WOW!”
“You like it?” Leah clearly knew the answer, but a little validation was always appreciated.
He nodded. “You look beautiful. Cmon. I’ll buy it for you.”
“Aww! Thanks baby!” Leah kissed his cheek again, grinning. “You’re so good to me.”
“Well you deserve it.” Jonathan told her genuinely.
She was smiling from ear to ear while striding her way back to the dressing rooms. When she returned a few minutes later; it was like the expression of gratefulness never left her face. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too.” He placed a small kiss on her lips before they went up to pay for the dress. After, they made a few more small purchases at various other stores before Jonathan very suddenly stopped in his tracks.
“Jonathan?” Leah tilted her head in confusion, thinking maybe he’d accidentally left his wallet behind at a store, or forgot something else that was important. “Babe you okay?” He didn’t answer her, just staring forward, clearly nervous. “Babe!” She repeated again, this time it seemed to get his attention.
“S..sorry. I’m just not feeling well can we go home now?!” He sputtered out in a panic, grabbing onto her hand for a sense of comfort. “Please?!”
“Yeah you look a little pale..” She observed, clearly concerned for him. He’s never done this before. “Let’s go get a drink.”
“NO!” He answered significantly louder then intended, taking the attention of fellow customers. “Let’s just go, okay?!”
“Will you at least tell me what you’re so freaked out about?” Leah calmly asked as they walked back towards the car. He darted inside instantly. “Jonathan!” She sighed heavily as she took the drivers seat.
He started to sob uncontrollably, which only made her freak out more. “Please..”
“Oh my gosh babe!” Out of instinct, she wrapped her arms around him securely. “It’s okay. I’m here.”
“Can we just.. go home.. please..?” He asked through tears, though secretly he wanted her to keep hugging him. “I need to lay down. I feel so sick.”
“Yeah.” Leah sighed again, pulling out of the parking spot and beginning to drive away.
After a few minutes of silence, Jonathan finally spoke. “I saw someone I didn’t wanna see.”
“Who?” She asked softly. “You can tell me.”
Jonathan wiped a few tears from his cheeks. “That one baby sitter I had.”
His words hit her like a ton of bricks. She knew exactly who was being referred to. “Shit baby. I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry.”
“I don’t think she saw me.” Jonathan expressed hopefully.
Leah shook her head slowly. “That sick bitch!”
“I just wanna forget about it, okay? Can we just go home.. maybe order a pizza?”
She nodded. “But if you change your mind and wanna talk about it, I’m here you know that.”
“I know baby. And I appreciate it.” His tears were dried up a bit now. “You were always so kind and understanding about it. That means more to me then you’ll ever know.”
“I’d give you a hug and kiss but I’m driving.” She was relieved when he let on a smile. Leah often tried to make people laugh when they had some sort of emotional distress. Her and Brian Welch had that in common. Most likely why they became friends so easily.
….
Jonathan had felt a little better as the day progressed into evening. Leah’s general presence was very soothing to him.
He was sat comfortably on the couch next to her, softly tracing his fingers up and down her back. “I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you.” Jonathan whispered seriously.
“I’m not going anywhere.” She assured him. “I love you.” Leah smiled a bit before kissing him softly.
“You taste like pizza.” He chuckled, running a hand through her long blonde hair.
“I ate like five slices. So did YOU!” She reminded him before kissing his lips again.
“Yeah and it was worth it.” He leaned his head on her shoulder. “You’re comfy.”
“Tired?” Leah questioned, but he shook his head no.
“Just relaxed.” He answered, smiling while watching Leah’s two cats, Willow and Snowball playing together in the corner of the room. “Aww!”
“They’re so precious, aren’t they?” Leah loved her cats. The two creatures were indeed her babies. “It’s funny watching them.”
“Yeah. They are.” Despite Jonathan promising he wasn’t tired, his eyes were fighting to stay open. He let out a yawn, finally surrendering to his fatigue. “Mm I’m sleepy.”
Leah couldn’t help but chuckle at him. It was such an adorable sight when he was sleepy. “Alright let’s go to bed.” She too was starting to get sleepy. Besides, even if she didn’t fall asleep right away, Jonathan definitely wanted her company. It had been a rough day for him after all.
….
Leah made herself comfortable underneath the covers while leaning against Jonathan as he spooned her. “Cozy.”
“You say that every night.” He played with her hair a bit, smiling while his fingers made their way through her blonde strands. “But I’m glad you’re nice and cozy.” He paused for a second to kiss the top of her head. “Good night my love.”
“Night baby.” They two shared a kiss before falling asleep at their respective times. Leah was still worried about Jonathan, but in her mind all signs pointed to him doing decently okay. He was definitely holding her closer, tighter even.
A few hours went by. At this point, it had to be about two am. Jonathan had woken up suddenly, and was sobbing into his pillow trying not to wake Leah.
However, his efforts were in vain. “Jonathan? What’s going on?” Leah was still waking up when she started talking, so her voice was slightly hazy.
As much as he felt it would be easier to play it off and tell her to go back to sleep, he knew he couldn’t. “I..had one of those nightmares again. I haven’t had them for awhile.” He trembled, breathing heavy and heart pounding. “I’m sorry I woke you up.”
“No baby. Don’t be sorry.” Leah whispered, turning on the beside lamp so they could see eachother. Perhaps it would comfort him. She ran her hands up and down his back in a soothing manner. “You’re safe.”
“You’re an angel, have I ever told you that?” He leaned into her soothing touch, encouraging her to continue it, which she did with no hesitation.
“No you haven’t.”
“Well you are.” He said seriously. “Everything’s easier with you here.”
“I’m glad baby.” She laid back down beside him, keeping her fingers moving slowly on his back. “Deep breaths baby. You’re okay. You’re safe. Just go to sleeeeep.” As she dragged out the final word in her sentence, Leah turned the beside lamp off again. Her arms wrapped securely around him so he was being comfortably spooned. “I’ve got you baby.”
Jonathan nodded, not saying much after that. Leah continued to soothe him until eventually they’d both fallen asleep again.
