Xu Xiaohui was born on august 22nd on a hot summer day while her mother was visting her grandparents. While she wasn’t due until the first week of september her family decided from there they would hunker down and live with her grandparents and so the little girl was born in raised in Ghuizhou, China. Her parents always said she danced, whether that be kicking her tiny legs as an infant or squatting to music as a toddler, they enrolled her into ballet as a child and slowly let her evolve and bleed into different dancing styles as she wanted to; Contemporary, hip hop, ballroom; tango. Etc you name it, she’s most likely tried it. Eventually joining a small dance team where they would cover both old and new kpop songs a like, choreograph some of the more upbeat chinese songs they found and make dances for various western songs as well. Her parents, though slightly disappointed she didn’t choose something else for her career where happy that she might get a job in something they had always recognized her passion in.
But when they brought up becoming an idol, Xiaohui was honestly a bit dumbfounded. She had always saw herself as more of a behind the scenes sort of person and didn’t want the idolization that came with the job. For her dancing and music was much more of an interpersonal thing, an exchange of a language with no words and while making that was fun, the people who would pretend to know and understand her was something that scared her. But since her parents had already created a small company with her and her cousin signed to it, there was no backing out now. For a few months, things went on. She took some moddelling pictures, opened up an instagram and updated pretty regulalry, she created her weibo and douyin but all she really had to do was post and reply to 1 or two comments and leave it at that. Her cousin, insistent on being on idol wanted to go on Young With You, a survival show much simillar to Idol Project and instead asked for both of them to come in. Once again, Xiao was pushed into the lime light.
The show played with their emotions, forcing them into strange side tasks like measuring how small the waist should be, pretending to eliminate some girls and not others; it was draining but the friendships she made there and the experience she made made her happy. Her popularity sky rocketed and her instagram went from a few 100 followers to 2.5K, she even managed to make it to the semifinals. While she’s still unsure about if Idol life fully fits her or not, she wants to give it a real chance. She just hopes she gets along with her fellow trainees and group mates
