Neither Echo nor Narcissus were human, not really. Narcissus was an almost perfect replica of a human, a perfect imitation and a beautifully crafted doll. Androids were a thing of true beauty and revolutionary engineering. Though being in a world decades behind their own there would be no one to even suspect Narcissus’s existence as possible. Narcissus certainly enjoyed passing as a human in their new home, it made caring for his own human turned mutant so much easier.
Echo on the other hand was human once upon a time. But the lingering mutations from the plague that had once run rampant through his body left its marks and irreversible damages behind. Something that would forever mark him as other even within the world the two had left behind to find a new home. The complications made him both more vulnerable and stronger than most other humans. There was always a cost, a price to be paid for his continued existence.
The highest cost of Echo’s illness and resulting recovery was his vision. Mostly blind Echo relied rather heavily on Narcissus to lead him around and do something Echo had once loved more than most other things, reading. Thus the two were in a library with Echo waiting anxiously in the reading area for Narcissus to pick books to read to him later.
Echo sat stiffly in a chair staring hard at the floor and uncertain of what to do. There was someone here that was putting his senses on edge. Something that had not happened since he had been around other infected in his own world. Narcissus was still browsing the shelves and Echo did not want to cause unnecessary distress. Perhaps they were normal and Echo was just the strange one, he did not really belong after all. He just hoped there would not be a fight...he did not think he could handle anymore fighting.
