“No…” He cracked a small smirk. “And yes.” The typically cold as stone serpent softened his gaze. “Doesn’t it ever scare you, Evans? To have people in your life that you simply cannot lose? That you can’t imagine being without?” A chuckle escaped his lips and he shook his head, playing it off as nothing but drunken rambling. Too much, Theo, he thought to himself,too much.
He was drunk -- she was drunk. Once again, they were alone, two kids caught up in something that they had no control over, drowning themselves in liquor, as if pickling their livers would stop their emotions. She knew what he meant, even if he denied it. Even if he acted like it wasn’t important. Because he was important, to her. And what if something happened to him? She had just found him, in this war and chaos. She didn’t want to lose him.
“It’s okay to be afraid, Theo. ‘M afraid of losing you too.” She admitted, curling into him slightly. Normally, she would change the subject, maybe even kiss him, but right now, it was easier to talk.
