Unintentionally, Alicent bristles at his acute observation. She didn't know how to feel about how well he was able to see past the queenly facade that everyone else took at face value. But then again, he had known her longer than most. But she couldn't bring herself to admit that ever since he'd left, her father had jumped at the opportunity to put his own plans into motion, to weave the green influence of the Hightowers into the red and black of the Targaryens that hadn't been possible with the Rogue Prince around. And that with each passing day, her father expected more and more from her and her children. "A drink?" Alicent echoes, rather dumbly, at his suggestion.

The Queen's violet eyes had been surveying her newest feat when a flash of familiarity caught her gaze, sending her breath catching in her throat. It was the smallest hint, barely there against a head of brown, and yet...

And yet she hadn't seen hair the color of which matched her own since her brother.

BASED ON: An AU that's been living rent-free in my mind lately of Aemond switching over to the Black's. His siege of Harrenhal takes place a bit sooner in the timeline. Aemond is shown, unknowingly, visions of what is to come while residing in Harrenhal, and immediately flies back. Could take place in the keep, or maybe he is the one who brought his mother over to Dragonstone. Open to anyone.

"Aegon is not fit to rule. He never has been." It would have pained him to admit as much had the flashes of foreseen DEATH not been imprinted behind his eyelid, ingrained into his bloodstream. The death of his mother, his sister, himself, and almost the entire Targaryen dynasty was extinguished to ashes for nothing but pride. He didn't care for himself. He had never feared death, but to see his faithful mount, whom he had spent his entire adolescence striving to be worthy of, fall to her death... To see his sister jump - "I only regret it has taken me this long to truly see." He spoke low, swallowing thickly. It wasn't his only regret, of course. Death, it seemed, would follow him like a shadow.

"Okay then, maybe work on your fighting while you're at it, too." Az retorts. "Do you keep any weapons on you?" He asks, sounding slightly impatient as he crosses his arms over his chest and peers down at her. "And were they the only ones you remember coming after you, or do I need to go hunt someone else down before they come back to finish the job?" That, he wouldn't have minded; his blood was still pumping from this little fight.

Hades was not used to someone asking him for protection. What could be so bad that this girl would risk the Underworld for safety? Those men chasing her looked like lackeys from his brother Zeus, who grew more agitating with each passing day. He was gonna refuse her, turn away. Whatever business Zeus had with her was not something he would meddle with. Until she said please and that she would do whatever he wanted as long as he didn't make her go back. He sighed.

"Don't think of me as soft because I'm helping you. I'm just as terrifying as the stories claim me to be, and I'm assuming it's my irritating brother you're running from. make no mistake he'll come looking, that much is certain."

He turned around and started back toward his bar. "Well, are you coming?"

For a moment, Esme didn't dare hope that he would actually help her. She wasn't stupid enough not to realize who stood before her, and it was miraculous enough that he had allowed her to cross the bridge. No, she was very well expecting him to tell her to turn right back around and leave.

Instead, she found herself surprised to see him sigh as if resigned and grant her wish. "Really?" She couldn't help but ask, eyes widening slightly in disbelief and barely concealed relief. Even when he turned and walked away, Esme remained rooted in her spot from her disbelief, only shaking herself out of her stupor and hurrying after him at his beckon. "And if he does come looking?" She fearfully asks as she falls into step with him, her eyes darting around to take in the city that so few had crossed.

There was a story stirring inside of her, the kind that hit all at once and begged to be let out. She knew the moment she got home, she'd be on her laptop typing away for most of the night. Aven always pulled small things from real life for her books, a phrase or a mannerism or a portion of an experience, but he'd effortlessly sparked that inspiration in a way nobody else ever had. Maybe writing it down would help her figure out why he seemed so familiar.

She fell into step with him, gazing around at the details as they walked. The hallway wasn't as breathtaking as the entryway, but it was still beautiful, especially compared to the austere lines of modern architecture. "Oh." She gave a soft gasp when he opened the doors to reveal a library that rivaled the one in Beauty & the Beast. Better, actually, since this one was real. She'd never seen anything that grand in a private home.

"This is beautiful… I could spend a lifetime in here." She smiled, gently running a finger along the spines of a row of books. It was tempting to do just that. She could waste hours just wandering among the rows and making friends with the books. "This whole place is a treasure, Phillip. I'm so glad you decided to restore it."

For a brief moment, Philip felt as if the air had been knocked out of him. Standing there in the library that had once been theirs, with this woman who so strikingly resembled his lost love, he found himself transported back to happier times. Times when he and his love would unwind in this very library and read together, curled up on their favorite couch as the evening carried on.

He had to physically shake his head to dispel the memory from his mind, and his sad eyes refocused on the awe the woman displayed. "It's yours to do with as you wish," he granted with a faint bow of his head, forcing a smile on his lips. It's yours, he truly wished to say. "Feel free to read and spend as much time here as you'd like as you work."

Daemon let out a small hum. "What gave you that idea?" He asked. Yes he was not squeaky clean, but he had some kind of moral code. He leaned toward her just a little. "What has you in such a mood?"

"Everything," Alicent couldn't help but retort as if it were obvious, her hands clasped tightly in front of her. Everything gave her that idea, from the way he and Rhaenyra were able to just flounce around doing whatever they pleased with no repercussions. "I'm not in a mood." She responds too quickly. In truth, she had just come from a chat with her father, which had, in fact, left her in a mood, as they tended to do as of late.

She was bathed in a halo of light, so much so that for a brief moment Lucien swore she was glowing. His chest ached at the sight, that quiet thread pulling taunt as she drew near.

His expression softened as she spoke, the confusion of every sensation she did not understand. Lucien briefly thought of her sisters, each struggling in their own way through the mating bond. What he did not understand however, was that neither had explained any of it to her. "I can't say that I have much experience with it...Just stories and tales of those who have one" His palms open towards her, trying to lighten the atmosphere between them. He watched her hand gesture to her own torso, and his own sought out that spot below his ribs and heart where that thread seemed to pull. "Would it help if we....got to know one another? To be friends?" There is a tone of hopefulness in his voice, a genuine offer. "...It is confusing...to feel another's emotions, to know when you're...upset or happy and not know the reason why. When you're near I....all I want is to be next to you, Elain. But if that is not what you want, then I will go far away." Lucien looked up at her, his throat bobbing as he tentatively reached for her hand. "But if you wish for answers, then I promise to tell you every answer I possess"

For a while, Elain wanted to know absolutely nothing about the bond that had been declared for her. Why should she, when she wanted nothing to do with it? She had been stubborn in her insistence, and Nesta had been all too happy to encourage her stubbornness even after what she had with Cassian developed. Feyre had tried at first to talk to her about it, but eventually gave up. When Elain finally did approach her about it, her sister seemed at a loss as to how to describe it, finally settling with 'you just know'. That hadn't been very helpful to her at all, and so Elain was left to stew in her confusion.

"I would like that very much," it was almost embarrassing to Elain how quickly she had perked up at the idea of simply being friends. But to her, it meant that there were no expectations, at least, she hoped not, and they could simply get to know one another. "I don't even know where to begin," she admits bashfully, peering up at him through her lashes. "But... I think being friends would be a great start. I would like that very much."

Ben kept step with her, glancing sideways as she spoke what seemed to be the actual truth for the first time since they'd met. He still wasn't sure if she trusted Tyrion, but it seemed as though she was leaning towards trusting him. "I have never known you to be alone, do none of the people allowed to care for you provide this comfort?"

Sansa gave a humorless smile in response. "They are my keepers, not my friends." People who were placed strategically by the Queen to ensure she spoke no treason or had any way of reaching out to her brother. "There is no comfort to be had here." She wasn't sure what had prompted her sudden honesty. Perhaps the loneliness had finally gotten to her. "I'm sorry, I didn't intend to sour the mood."

Lucien blinked, as if he hadn’t heard her correctly. For a moment, he just stared at her, the ball strangely distant, the sounds barely audible. Shock struck first, the repeating the same thought over and over again; she was trying. Lucien was sure he's never heard sweeter words. His posture loosened, shoulders going slack as he met her gaze. Lucien was a few steps below her, frozen in his escape.

"Understand?" He echoed softly, brows drawn together. His jaw worked silently, briefly before Lucien nearly whispered the words out. "What would you want to know?" His gaze fell, eyelids fluttering shut as he exhaled. The next time he spoke, his voice was far more steady. His palms tucked to his side, his head dipping in a quiet bow. "....I apologize for snapping, my lady"

Slowly, hesitantly, Elain closed the distance between them until she was only standing a step above him on the stairs. She could see the moment his posture loosened, and her own body mirrored the motion.

"You needn't apologize," Elain quietly assured, fiddling nervously with her fingers. She didn't even know where to begin explaining all that went through her head, all that she felt in her heart. She couldn't even understand what she felt; how could she expect him to? "I just don't understand all that I feel." She lowered her gaze to his chest, unable to meet his eyes as the words tumbled past her lips with a quietness that drifted in the wind. "I don't understand how it is that I am always able to feel you, even when I cannot see you. Or why I always feel this..." she trailed off, shaking her head as she struggled to describe what she felt as her hand hovered unsurely over her chest in a gesture. "-this... pull every time you're near. I am told it's a bond of fate, but I just... don't understand." How could some all-knowing power dictate who she was meant to love? "Please, don't misunderstand me. I simply can't understand how one is simply meant to know."

Lucien's carefully maintained restraint snapped the moment her face settled into his palm. The sight alone had his stomach flipping in anticipation, the way it seemed almost natural to her to seek out his touch. “Elain.” His voice came out strained, his chest tightening—she had to know what he meant, had to— Show me. His mouth found hers before she could even draw a breath, before Lucien could even think of talking himself out of it.

Elain tasted sweet and honeyed, a warmth that sank into him and consumed him. His thumb brushed her jaw, angling her face in a way that deepened their kiss. He thought of her words, how she had mentioned both showing and telling. His cheeks burned at the thoughts that had rolled in his head. Did she ever dream of him too? His lungs were beginning to hurt, and despite wanting to remain locked in a kiss...Lucien eased back with his chest softly heaving.

"If you keep looking at me like that" His gaze dropped back to her mouth before his eyes lifted to meet hers again "I just might tell you all the things I've dreamed about you" He leaned down again, his mouth brushing against hers. "Although we shouldn't discuss it in public, especially if you'd like me to show you" His voice was light, gently teasing her as his thumb brushed against her bottom lip. "I've dreamed of that, Elain....not quite here, but...the dream doesn't compare to the real thing"

The anticipation of what he would do sent Elain's stomach into knots, and the moments seemed to drag on endlessly. For a brief second, Elain had to wonder if she had gone too far, if she had read into things so disastrously that her coyness would only bite her and --

His lips were upon hers before her thoughts could spiral any further, and Elain released a brief sound of surprise from the back of her throat before instinctively melting into his embrace. His kiss was so unlike the chaste ones she had shared with Grayson, who touched her as if she were something delicate and easy to break. And while Lucien, too, held her as if she were something delicate, it was hard not to feel devoured by the way his lips molded to hers, as if she were something to be worshipped. His lips were electric and warm against hers, and Elain felt positively consumed by him.

Too soon, he was pulling away, and Elain was left dazed. She never wanted him to stop, and the thought was enough to startle her. A quiet whimper built within her as his lips grazed against hers teasingly, and his words sent a warm flush through her body. "Then perhaps we should go back home." She murmured against his touch, emboldened by the drinks and his touch.

Austin couldn't help but smile at how unsettling the news brought her. He reached inside his back pocket to reveal a small glass vile filled with a gooey black substance. "If you truly want to be free from this tiresome conflict, then all you have to do is drink this. This potion will temporarily make your heart stop just enough for him to come collect. And when he does, I will swiftly kill him." He explained oh so calmly.

Austin let out a long sigh, realizing this may be too much for her. "I know this news is alarming, but I can assure you I won't let you die.. not permanently. I know why trust me hmm? How about I promise on the soul of my dearly departed mother I won't let you die? Is that good enough for you?" He told with gentle eyes.

His smile at her obvious discomfort and fear unsettled her, but she chose to focus instead on the vile being held towards her. It looked ghastly and suspicious, and her face scrunched up at just the sight of it. "Where did you even get that from?" She asks, aghast. "How do we even know that it'll work? That it won't kill me permanently?" She was taking far too many risks than she was comfortable with for this man, yet admittedly, she was still alive.

"It's not, but I don't have much of a choice here, do I?" Ellie retorts. Her stomach was turning with the possibilities of things going wrong, but it was either this or continue living her life on the run and in hiding. And like it or not, only one sounded more appealing.
