The silent support
I’ve been noticing a trend among my followers when it comes to reblogging posts about certain topics. For pretty much every social justice post on my blog, I get reblogs from a lot of people. When it comes to islam...an endless stream of likes, and zero reblogs.
It astounds me tumblr has created an environment so hostile that people seem downright SCARED to reblog anything that might paint islam in a negative light, because it’s the liberal cause of the decade and anyone that dares criticize it is “islamophobic”.
But there are people out there who are suffering from it, and even if we can’t help them that much, spreading their voices and denouncing their oppressors could, at the very least, make them feel less alone. And maybe open someone’s eyes in regards of the way religion treats them.
I am and will always be a left leaning person because I believe in personal freedom and tolerance for all. It seems hypocritical and downright unthinkable to me that the western left is getting so friendly with pretty much THE most conservative ideology in the world. Like forget trump. Forget pence. Try living under sharia law for a year.
So please don’t let yourself be intimidated by tumblr bullies. If you too, believe that a prophet that raped a nine year old girl is not a good example for people; if you too believe that linda sarsour, who defended sharia and hates FGM survivor ayaan hirsi ali shouldn’t be the face of “modern feminism”. If you too find it unacceptable that people born in muslim families have to hide their lack of faith WHILE LIVING IN THE WEST. If you too think an idea is not a race and it’s not above criticism. If you too believe it’s absurd that some people of color had to choose between a racist candidate and a candidate that supported their oppressors.
Please speak up. There are people out there who are suffering and need us.
